Obituary:
Portland Press Herald (ME) - November 27, 1996
Deceased Name: ROGER W. BRUNS
Roger W. Bruns, 81, owner and operator of Bruns' Esso Station for 35 years, died unexpectedly Monday in a local hospital.
From 1942 to 1977, Mr. Bruns ran the busy Esso filling station at Valley and Congress streets near Union Station.
''He was there when the trains were driven with coal,'' said his son, Wayne T. Bruns, referring to the nearby Union Station railway station on St. John Street that was closed in 1960 and torn down in 1961.
Mr. Bruns limited his business to the selling of gasoline, oil changes and fixing flat tires. ''The station had a pit instead of a lift,'' said his son, ''and that usually was filled with water.''
Something else he did from his lot was provide guidance to lost drivers. ''He gave out directions more than anything else,'' said his son. ''Some tourists, even though they went by only twice a year, they tooted their horn, because he was there for so many years.''
''It was a popular station,'' said his daughter, Sherry Horr. ''People all seemed to like him, even though he was a man of few words.''
Mr. Bruns always wore an Esso uniform with a black bow tie, said his daughter, and he put in long days, from early in the morning until whenever he decided to go home. ''It was just the old-time filling station - a little place with a heater in the corner.''
His customers, as well as his friends from the Portland Eagles Club next door, often crowded into the office just to pass the time and talk, said his daughter.
Mr. Bruns retired in 1977 after he burned his hands in an accident at the station. The station made way for a medical office building about 1980.
He was a member of the Portland Eagles.
Born here, a son of Thomas and Admah Goodwin Bruns, he was a 1933 graduate of Deering High School.
Mr. Bruns lived for more than 50 years on Mabel Street, and spent summers on Long Island for many years.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Ruby Johnson Bruns; a son, Wayne T. of Westbrook; a daughter, Mrs. Leon (Sherry) Horr of Cape Elizabeth; four grandchildren, Karen Marcisso, Jason Horr, Robin Doody and Kory Horr; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. today in Brooklawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Hay & Peabody Funeral Home, 749 Congress St.

Obituary:
Published in the Ravalli Republic - June 3, 2004; Hamilton, Montana

Florence G. Wildey, 90, of Hamilton passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital. She was born June 16, 1913, in the Robbins Home in Conner where she grew up living with a family of six brothers and sisters.

Florence remembered that most days were filled with working in the garden in the summer, helping her folks put aside vegetables and fruit for the summer and winter and also trucking them to the Big Hole Valley to be sold. She also helped feed and milk, take care of the other animals and hiring out. Florence said that school time was hard and short.

She attended elementary school at Rye Creek in Conner and later attended high school in Darby. Florence remembered spending summers at Medicine Hot Springs in the late 1920s, helping her folks run the restaurant and taking care of the cabins for Ed Smith. In 1930, she married Miles Ray in Darby and together they had five children, Curt, Norma, Ben, Marilyn and Alvin. They lived on the Bud Ray Ranch at the mouth of the North Fork of Rye Creek.

Florence recalled many friends and family who would come and stay for a get away, hunting trip, to brand or to put up hay. After many moves and working for the ACM in Anaconda, ranching, farming and lumber mills, Miles was forced to retire because of his health. Miles later died at their home in Darby in 1962.

Florence married Morris Wildey in 1964 and they lived in the log house Morris built on Medicine Tree Creek. Her life at Medicine Tree, with a family that had doubled in size, was filled doubley with what she loved most, her and Morris' children and grandchildren. Florence loved her family and friends and she was never far from her gardens, flowers and farm animals. Morris died in 1982 and Florence moved to Hamilton where she has lived the past 22 years.

Florence is survived by children, Marilyn and Larry Matteson of Helena, and Alvin and Thelma Ray of Lincoln; step-children, Eldon and Ruth Wildey of Hamilton, Bonnie and Phil Richards of Hamilton, Janette and Jerry Shook of Darby and Janice Applebury of Hamilton; daughters-in-law Darleen Ray of Hamilton and Betty Ray of Burchette, Wash.; two sisters, Helen Peterson of Anaconda and Marie Mayberry of Colorado; 32 grandchildren, 87 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and two husbands, Florence was preceded in death by three children, Curt and Ben Ray and Norma Ray Evers; granddaughter, Debbie Evers Buhler; sisters, Nettie and Sue, and brothers, Arthur (Buzz) and Don; sons-in-law, Jay and Rex Applebury and Lawrence Evers.

Graveside services will be held Friday, June 4, at 2 p.m. at the Lone Pine Cemetery in Darby. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.

Randy Hoar's Anuproar
This space is dedicated to my old friend and brother, Randy Hoar jr who has recently passed away in early May 2005.Randy played guitar for the Funky Circus Fleas in '00-'05,played many countless shows around Illinois and beyond, made a significant name for themselves(and still do),and made a major inspiration of a passion for music/message type lifestyle in my own life and how life itself is like a song you play. Before FcF, during the woodshed days, Randy played in AnUproar, an original band that had resulted from many band members/friends jam sessions from '91-'99,AnUproar included; Randy Hoar/vox/bas/guitar,John Crow/ lead guitar/bak vox,Jim Spinser,Shon Tailer/drum,Tim Diwit/bass.AnUproar had only a few descent recordings done on a four track but many countless boombox and video cam recordings are out there. These songs are very deep and meaningful to me,looking back now there always seemed to be a strange urgency to get this out,and the fact that these songs came together so easily and quickly with everyone playing their part with no friction amongst us,its no wonder it came and went so fast..Randy came up with the album name "Strong Conviction"because some of the lyrics he wrote were so personal and heartfelt that after playing in front of a crowd we dropped some of the songs because of the strong warning that he was compelled to give them and the fact that we're all guilty...I met Randy in '89 the year I started playing guitar,I was 18 he was 15 he was starting to play guitar but his role in a band was obviously singing so he focused on that.He was jammin with Roadkill(Sean Tailer,Arron Slatir,Tim Diwit,John Plunkit,)a very young, energetic, heavy rock band out of B'town who would later become the current FcF..Within a few years I started playing with a few friends from Rushville, including Jasun Perry, and the late Pete Lashbrook. These guys really inspired me to want to learn music theory/scales/modes/lateral/linear type playing as they totally were into ripping out guitar solos.Later,as we got better Randy asked if he could come out and sing and once he did our singer seemed to fall back to the guitar as the obvious"Roar of the Hoar"made his debut...We played many cover tunes but they were always done in an original way as we had thumpin drums, screamin guitars, lowdown bass, and Hoar vocals, from skynerd to slayer every song featured a mosh pit opportunity..
