She was married to local attorney Frederick Hoar, with whom she would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary this year on Sept. 2. She was born in Lowell, a daughter of the late Thomas A. and Leonora E. (Belanger) McKenna. She graduated from Lowell High School as well as Vesper George and the Modern School of Applied Art in Boston. Mrs. Hoar worked in Boston as an illustrator and a display artist. She also worked at the Bon Marche Department Store, Cherry and Webb, and the Frank Archer TV Store, all in Lowell. She was a communicant of St. Mary Church in Chelmsford and St. Margaret Church in Lowell. She was a member of the parish's Blessed Virgin Sodality, the Poor Clair's Guild, and also the Lowell Lawyers Wives Club. Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Kathy Ann McDonald; and two grandchildren, Stephen McDonald and Leonora McDonald, all of Chelmsford. Hoar, Jr., 85, of 19 Savi Ave., died Tuesday at the Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London. He was born in Boston Oct. 6, 1917, the son of Charles and Marjorie Moody Hoar. He married Vivian Hoar in Sheboygan, Wis., Sept. 7, 1946. She died Nov. 8, 1995. Mr. Hoar was retired from the U.S. Navy after 23 years of service. He served in the Pacific during World War II. After retiring from the Navy, he was employed by the United Services Life Insurance Company for over 20 years. He is survived by a son, Charles Hoar and his wife Karen of Oldsmar, Fla.; a daughter, Susan Herron and her husband Michael of Ridgefield; a sister, Margaret Dacey of West Roxbury, Mass.; and five grandchildren, Richard, Brian, and Kevin Hoar, and Steven and David Herron. He was predeceased by a brother, Walter Hoar. The funeral will assemble at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London, and proceed to an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
