Hoar, Jr., 85, of 19 Savi Ave., died Tuesday at the Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London. He was born in Boston Oct. 6, 1917, the son of Charles and Marjorie Moody Hoar. He married Vivian Hoar in Sheboygan, Wis., Sept. 7, 1946. She died Nov. 8, 1995. Mr. Hoar was retired from the U.S. Navy after 23 years of service. He served in the Pacific during World War II. After retiring from the Navy, he was employed by the United Services Life Insurance Company for over 20 years. He is survived by a son, Charles Hoar and his wife Karen of Oldsmar, Fla.; a daughter, Susan Herron and her husband Michael of Ridgefield; a sister, Margaret Dacey of West Roxbury, Mass.; and five grandchildren, Richard, Brian, and Kevin Hoar, and Steven and David Herron. He was predeceased by a brother, Walter Hoar. The funeral will assemble at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London, and proceed to an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
