26389 | Obituary: http://www.monticellowi.com/GreenCo/obitM.htm Albany, Green County Wisconsin Vindicator pub. Thursday, Nov. 14, 1895 Contributed by Christine M. Spencer Surnames: Mitchell, Hoard Died-at the family residence, near this city, on Wednesday evening, Nov. 6, 1805 [1895], Mary E., wife of James Mitchell, aged 48 years, 10 months and 17 days. Mary E. Hoard was born in Ohio Dec. 20, 1846. She was married to Jas. Mitchell 32 years ago, and was the mother of one son, Arthur B. For a number of years, Mrs. Mitchell has been in poor health, being at times a great sufferer from rheumatism, but she bore it all with Christian fortitude. About 12 years ago she experienced religion, and has since been a consistent follower of her Savior. Her last illness was of short duration and it was not thought the end was so near; but the disease took a fatal turn, and after hours of intense pain, she passed away as above stated. In her death the community has lost a kind hearted and sympathetic friend and neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand in case of sickness or trouble. The funeral was held from the M.E. Church Saturday afternoon, the services being conducted by the pastor, and the remains tenderly laid to rest in the Albany cemetery. Her husband, son and aged father, with many other relatives, are left to mourn their loss. | Hoard, Mary (I40146)

26392 | Obituary: http://www.pagenweb.org/~fayette-obits/obits/d31.htm Two Men Killed David and William Hawk Crushed to Death by a Fall of Coal at Percy Percy, July 3, by a fall of slate in the mine of the Percy Mining company yesterday afternoon, William and David Hawk, brothers, were killed and their brother Peter was seriously injured. The day's work was about completed and William was filling out a wagon which was about half loaded. To do this he was "robbing a stump." There had been a fall of coal there and assistant mine boss Wilson had advised the workmen not to draw any more from that point until today. William Hawk disregarded the advice and the chance proved fatal to him. When the fell started David and Peter rushed to his rescue. David held the slate up for a bit when a second fall came and crushed him to death instantly. Peter was also caught and was badly bruised but not fatally. William was finally taken out from under the slate but died half an hour afterwards. Coroner Taylor came down and in company with Mine Inspector Conner upon looking into the matter decided that the company was not to blame and that no inquest was necessary. This is the first fatal accident at the Percy Mine for 20 years. The Hawk brothers lived in Yauger Hollow, were old employees of the company and substantial citizens of the community. They were from 35 to 40 years of age. William's wife is dead and he leaves no children. David leaves a wife and several children. Another brother, John, was in the mine also but escaped injury.
