HOAR, EMILY DAVIS, age 95, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 17, 2010. She was born in Henderson, Kentucky, July 24, 1914; and returned with her parents to Nashville, Tennessee, where she grew up. She entered Ward Belmont in Nashville as a young woman and upon graduation, she attended Vanderbilt University for two years. While at Vanderbilt she became a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Emily married her college sweetheart, Paul Hunter, Jr. in November, 1934;and after his service in World War II, they moved to Birmingham, Alabama. In early 1956, Emily was widowed and later met Richard N. Hoar. They were married in November of 1958 and shared a kind and loving marriage for forty years until his death in December of 1998. She will be missed by many and remembered for her love of life and people. She was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she greatly enjoyed all of them. Emily is survived by a son, Paul Hunter III (Frances), a daughter, Emily H. Ruppert of Newburyport, Massachusetts, a daughter, Derrel H. Sundock (Richard), a son, Christopher S. Hoar, a son, Wayne N. Hoar (Kathryn), 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. On Sunday, January 24th at 3:00 PM, a memorial service will be held in the chapel at Kirkwood by the River, 3605 Ratliff Road, Birmingham. Alabama, Rev. R. B. Hanna. On Monday, January 25th at 2:00 PM, a church service will be held in the sanctuary at All Saints' Episcopal Church, 110 W. Hawthorne Road, Homewood, Alabama, Rev. G. Curry, Rector. A private internment of Emily's ashes will be held in the garden at All Saints' Episcopal Church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to All Saints' Episcopal Church or Habitat for Humanity, one of Emily's favorite charities.
