Richard Nichols Hoar, age 85, of Destin, Fla., passed away Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, in a local hospital.
Mr. Hoar was born in Iowa City, Iowa, on June 27, 1913, to the late Friend Reed and Wilma Hoar. He had been a resident of Destin for the past 19 years, moving from Birmingham, Ala., and was a member of St. Simon's Episcopal Church on the Sound. Mr. Hoar was a graduate of Auburn University and did graduate work at Cornell University. He was president of F.R. Hoar & Sons Construction Co. in Birmingham.
Mr. Hoar is survived by his wife, Emily Hoar of Destin; son, Paul Hunter and wife Frances of Birmingham, Ala.; daughter, Emily Hunter Ruppert of Boston; daughter, Olga Hoar McCain and husband Paul of Decatur, Ala.; daughters, Derrel Hoar Sundock and husband Richard of Birmingham; son, Christopher Sheridan and wife Marsha of Jensen Beach, Fla.; son, Wayne Nichols Hoar and wife Kathryn of Birmingham; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Mr. Hoar will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, at St. Simon's Episcopal Church on the Sound with Rev. Jim Spencer officiating.
There will be a memorial service at All Saints Episcopal Church in Birmingham at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Simon's Episcopal Church Building Fund in memory of Mr. Richard Hoar.
Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road N.E., Fort Walton Beach, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.
