Matrilineal-old (mtDNA)

You may have been redirected to this archaic page by accident. Check the main matrilineal page in the glossary as well.

Our group does not support this form of testing and matching on Mitochondrial DNA directly. Generally, this should be covered (if at all) as part of a Near Term activity built around Autosomal DNA work. Mitochondrial SNP's are relatively few with thousand's of years between changes. So there is very little nearer term genealogical benefits. Matching values can help confirm that two matrilineal descent people do share the same matrilineal line. But a match far from guarantees any genealogical time frame common ancestors..We expect little interest in following the Matrilineal values.  So this page is just a place holder until something more happens, if ever. And to redirect you to the Near Term page for any real work.

See our Genetic Genealogy section for more about Mitochondrial DNA (or mtDNA) testing that is used for a Matrilineal activity.
