Obituary:
HOAR: Maria Bemiss Hoar: Newspaper Obituary and Death Notice
Richmond Times-Dispatch (VA) - August 21, 2001
Deceased Name: HOAR: Maria Bemiss Hoar
Maria Bemiss Hoar, widow of Henry Charles Hoar, died on August 19, 2001 at Westminster-Canterbury, which with St. Paul's Episcopal Church, was one of the many communities of people uplifted and made beautiful by her radiant hope, faith and love. She was born in Richmond on September 26, 1907, the youngest child of Cyane Dandridge Williams and Eli Lockert Bemiss. Brothers and sisters who preceded her in death were Samuel, John and Lockert Bemiss, Charlotte Bemiss Daniel, Frances Bemiss Mason, Catharine Bemiss McGuire and Cyane Bemiss Crump. Mrs. Hoar attended the Stratford and Collegiate Schools and graduated from Sweetbriar College. She is survived by her three children, Thomas Charles Dandridge of Grand Rapids, Mich., Cyane Bemiss Lowden of Richmond and Catharine B. Penson of Lake Wylie, S.C.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Despite a series of physical hardships, Mrs. Hoar was indomitable in her generous enrichment of the spirits of others, whose need she always saw as being greater than her own. In her final days, her spirit was as ethereal as ever and her only sorrow was being unable to visit sad and lonely friends. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 25, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church and at 2 p.m. Monday, August 27, at Westminster-Canterbury. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 901 E. Grace St., Richmond, Va. 23219, to the Westminster-Canterbury Foundation, 1600 Westbrook Ave., Richmond, Va. 23227, or to Maymont Foundation, 1700 Hampton St., Richmond, Va. 23220.

DONNA I. LABREE
BREWER and OLD TOWN - Donna I. (Hoar) LaBree, 65, passed to her next journey Christmas morning, Dec. 25, 2008, after waging a seven and one half year battle with breast cancer. She was born Dec. 10, 1943, in Moncton, New Brunswick, daughter of Weston A. and Sadie Irene (Price) Hoar. Donna graduated from Woodstock High School, Woodstock, New Brunswick, in 1961, and Moncton School of Nursing. She worked many years as a registered nurse, lastly at Westgate Manor. In the 1970s, Donna worked for Penobscot Sheriffs Department and then became a private detective, and co-owned and later, owned and operated LaBree Investigations. In the last few years, she had been working and volunteering with Caring Connection in their work to educate women about early detection and testing for breast cancer. She was truly inspirational in her life and in her fight against cancer. She is survived by her daughter, Michele (LaBree) and her husband, Tim Daniels, of Brewer; son, Matthew and his wife, Stacy (Jardine) LaBree, of Hampden; her beloved grandchildren, Ryan Elliott and fianc?e, Alexa Schimmel, of Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, Katelan and Chase Daniels of Brewer, and Cameron and Alexis LaBree of Hampden; sisters, Linda Berg and her husband, Terje, of Vancover, British Columbia, and Beth Young and her husband, John, of Hartland, New Brunswick; her special nephews and niece, Glenn, Kyle and Eric Berg of Vancover, British Columbia, Kristi Macpherson and her partner, Brad Mclaughlin and their children, Dylan and Aaric Macpherson and Tianna Mclaughlin; and Craig Young and his wife, Tara and their children, Hunter, Logan and Teghan Young, all of Woodstock, New Brunswick; her friend and former husband, Wayne LaBree of Largo, Fla.; friends too numerous to mention and her cousins from all over Canada. Thanks to Dr. Adam Lauer for his compassion and the Rev. Bob Carlson for his humor and kindness. At her request, a party to celebrate her life will be held this summer. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to Caring Connection, attention Ro Lagasse, 17 Second St., Bangor, ME 04401.
