Arrangements are under the direction of the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 935 Parkway Ave., Ewing. Her sister's obituary: MANCHESTER - Lucienne Paradis, 102, died peacefully Jan. 17, 2012, of natural causes at Catholic Medical Center. Her mental capacities were excellent to the very end. She was admitted to CMC in early January with various complications and her health gradually deteriorated until her passing. She received the Catholic sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick in her last days. She had been living in the senior living community, The Meetinghouse at Riverfront in Manchester, for which she had great affection. Lucienne was born on April 14, 1909, in St. Pascal, Quebec. She was one of 14 children of the Beaupre family of which one still survives. She came to the United States in the early 1920s and settled in Nashua before moving to Southbridge, Mass. While in Southbridge, she worked in an administrative capacity with American Optical for a number of years. In 1942, Lucienne was married to Leandre Paradis, who died in Londonderry in 1990. After Southbridge, they lived in a number of Massachusetts communities before moving to Londonderry in the 1960s. On a personal note, Lucienne was a Roman Catholic and loved her faith. She was last listed as a member of St. Jude Community in Londonderry. She was an excellent seamstress and while her formal education may have been somewhat limited by today's standards, she was truly self-educated and developed great qualities of common sense and earthly wisdom along with an endless sense of humor. These qualities will be missed. Lucienne is survived by one sister, Juliet Horr of Waterford, Conn., and various nieces and nephews, with Cecile Clark of Dover, Yolande Cote of Asbestos, Quebec, and Harold Beaupre of Ocala, Fla., being the most instrumental in her life.. services: Mrs. Paradis donated her body to the Dartmouth Medical School for medical teaching and research. Because of this, there is no wake or funeral service, however, there will be a private service in the future. HORR (deceased), son of Abner Horr, was born in Lewis County, N.Y., December 26, 1819, and came to Shalersville, this county, at eighteen years of age with his parents. He first engaged in merchandising with his father, and as the latter's health was very much impaired, the main responsibility of the business devolved upon our subject. In 1842 he and Henry Beecher purchased the store, which they carried on jointly until 1845, when Mr. Beecher retired from the firm and Mr. Horr took possession of the entire business. He was united in marriage September 8, 1846, with Miss Rosella Beecher, born in Shalersville Township, this county, November 24, 1825, and daughter of Sylvester and Betsey (Bushnell) Beecher, and to this union have been born five children: Mrs. Irene R. Seymour, one son who died in infancy, Mrs. Isodene E. Oakley, William A. and Mrs. Adah V. Stough. Mr. Horr departed this life January 10, 1856. He was a man of rare business talents, and a very active citizen in the support of all worthy enterprises. He took an active interest in public affairs and held the position of Postmaster at Shalersville, this county, upward of fourteen years. In politics he was an ardent Republican. He was personally a genial companion, a true friend to the needy and a man of generous and noble impulses. He will long be remembered with tender respect by the citizens of Shalersville and vicinity. In April, 1861, Mrs. Horr removed to Ravenna, this county, where she still resides. Here she has devoted herself faithfully to the duty of bringing up and educating her family. She is a member of the Congregational Church, and is everywhere respected as a lady of estimable character. An enterprise in Mechanicsburg which represents in its rapid growth a vast amount of well directed energy and pronounced business sagacity is the lumber and coal business of Jacob Horr, one of the well known citizens of the town. Owing to his honest and careful methods of dealing with the general public Mr. Horr finds himself the recipient of a patronage gratifying from both a personal and financial standpoint, and a continued demand fur his necessary commodities is a prediction justified by the success of the past. So nearly were his first business expectations realized that in 1889 he broadened his interests to the extent of operating a well equipped saw and planing mill, and the combination thus effected has materially augmented the output of the yards. With the exception of temporary absences. Mr. Horr has spent his entire life within the radius of his present surroundings, and he was born not far from Mechanicsburg, March 13, 1844. His parents, William and Mary (Coan) Horr, were born in Carthage, Jefferson county, New York, in which city thev were married, and from there removed to Goshen township, this county, in 1837. As early pioneers of their locality they contributed much to the agricultural prosperity, and their well tilled farm continued to be their home for the remainder of their lives. Not the least meritorious of their many claims to the consideration of the coniimunity was the rearing to lives usefulness of seven children, two of whom are now deceased. The children were taught the dignity and qutility of a model farming existence, and educationally were permitted every advantage at the disposal of their parents. With his brothers and sisters Jacob Horr attended the public schools of Mechanicsburg, and further qualified for the future by taking a course in the Ohio Wesleyan University at Delaware, from which he graduated in the spring of 1866. His career at the university was interrupted in the spring of 1864. at which time he enlisted in Company C, One Hundred and Thirty-fourth Ohio Volunteer Infantry, with the rank of corporal, and served until October of the same year. Although not a long service, he gained a fair knowledge of the horrors of war, and of the character of that grand and silent soldier, Grant, with whom he fought at and around Petersburg. Since the war he has been a member of the Stephen Baxter Post, No. 88, Grand Army of the Republic. After completing his education Mr. Horr taught school for about four vears, and then turned his attention to farming in the vicinity of Mechanicsburg until 1886. During that year he saw an opening for a live business in coal and lumber, and wisely devoted his energies to the building up of his present lucrative industry. A large measure of success he attributes to the assistance of his wife and helpmate, who was formerly Sarah Magruder. and whom he married in Mechanicsburg in 1871. Of this union there is one daughter, Nellie, who is now the wife of John B. Outram, of Lippincott. Ohio. Mr. Horr is a Republican in national politics, but has never desired or accepted official recognition. He is a member of and generous contributor to the Methodist Episcopal church. The farming and stock-raising enterprises to which he devoted several years of his life are still maintained on a large scale, but in other respects he is identified with the energetic and resourceful life of the town which has benefited to no slight degree by his admirable citizenship.
