Notes on William
"In Taunton, the name is "Hoard" but he uses the form "Hoar" in all of his many deeds. The Staples St. cemetery was erected by a reservation in his deed of 1745 of the old homestead as a "burying place for him and his family; and was used as recently as 1854 for the interment of Katherine, wife of his son William. He conveyed his homestead in Middleboro, where he lived, to his son William in 1784; and other property. He may have had other children than those recorded." Spencer K. Fuller was born in Fullersvlllc, N. T., June 6. 1829, and died in Watertown September 16, 1870. lie was converted to God iu Carthage, N. Y., at the age of twenty-two, and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church soon after, lie pursued his preparatory course of study in Felley Seminary, Fulton, N. Y., and graduated at the Wesleyan University in Middletown with honor in 1859. He was licensed as a Local Preacher in Middletown in May, 1S57. He was married to Mise Sarah L. Horr, of Carthage, N. Y., November 20,1860. He joined the Black River Conference in the sprinir of 18til, and was appointed to the following stations successively: Martmsburgh. Syracuse First Church, Rome First Church, Lima Seminary as Principal, and Arsenal-street Church, Watertown. He returned to his charge in Wutfrtown from our last Conference in apparent (rood health and went forward in bis work with untiring zeal. The extensive repairs on his church greatly added to bis labors. Still he worked on with unflagging devotion as long as he could walk from his bouse. On the 20th of July, 1870, he was stricken down with hemorrhage of the lungs, and in ehrht short weeks quick consumption had wrought its work of death. Thus, in the fullness of his strength and usefulness our dear friend and brother passed away. To yield to sickness and death in the midst of bis prime, when his familv, the Church, and the world Po much needed him, was a sore trial. But in the very first dnjs of his illness be looked the sternest crisis of his life squarely in the face, and in full view of every possible contingency of suffering and death he calmly and fullj said, "The will of the Lord be done."
Brother Fuller was a good, true man, a loving hu?D- band, a tender father, a hard student, a line scholar, i hearty Methodist, a stirring preacher, a faithful Pastor, a lover of the Sunday-school, an uncompromising foe of intemperance and wrong in all its forms, and i Christian gentleman every-where. He was modes! and unassuming in his manners, but absolutely Immovable in his convictions of right and duty.

Progressive men of the state of Wyoming ...
By A.W. Bowen & Co
"CHARLES W. HORR.
Whether the causes of success in life emanate from essential elements in the individual or are quickened by extraneous circum'stances and influences it is difficult to determine with exactitude, but there can be naught but praise for the man who attains success by worthy means, commanding confidence and esteem by his integrity of character and honest endeavor. Such an individual is Mr. Horr, who merits place in this compilation as a successful rancher and stockraiser and as an honored citizen of Converse county, Wyoming. Charles W. Horr was born near Parkersburg, Butler county, Iowa, on May 28, 1864, the son of Recellus R. and Ale?na (Townsend) Horr. The grandfather Horr was of old New England stock and moved from Massachusetts to New York, where his son Recellus was born in the town
of Denmark, Lewis county. The mother's Townsend ancestors migrated fror" Pennsylvania to Ohio in very early days, being among the first settlers of the state and her grandfather, Nathan Townsend, of English lineage, who was born in Pennsylvania, married in Ohio and there passed his days, holding conspicuous positions of public trust. Recellus R. Horr early went to Iowa and in 1859 there joined an expedition fitted out for a journey to Pikes Peak, later returning to Iowa, where he made his home, a pioneer settler. He was distinctively an active public citizen and worked hard for the election of Abraham Lincoln as president, voting for him and all candidates on the Republican ticket. His patriotism would have made him a soldier in the Civil War, but defective teeth caused his rejection. He died from an accident at the age of sixty-four years. Charles W. Horr was the eldest of the five children of the family and after his school life in Iowa was ended he came to Colorado and for a year was engaged in ranching on the Cache la Poudre River, thereafter, in March, 1883, coming to Wyoming, and entering the employ of J. H. Kennedy on the La Prele, remaining in that connection as a rangerider for six years, when, on February 20, 1889, he took unto himself a wife, marrying Miss Ur?ee D. Adamson, a native of Iow:a, whose father, Samuel Adam- son, was engaged in agricultural operations in that state. Immediately after his marriage, Mr. Horr purchased the relinquishments of a settler on his present home ranch, homesteaded it and engaged in stock-raising on his own responsibility. His location is a pleasant one on the La Prele River, 18 miles southwest of Douglas and now comprising 900 acres of deeded land, in addition to which he controls 960 acres of leased land. The home ranch is almost entirely under effective irrigation and producing alfalfa and hay in abundance, while a comfortable residence, with substantial barns, sheds, corrals, etc., combine to make the property a model one for the purpose of carrying out the special branch of industry in which Mr. Horr is engaged, the raising of fine cattle of a superior quality, Herefords being his favorite breed and his herd showing some thoroughbreds. \\\\"ith his surroundings and the prospects of cumulative success attending his careful and intelligent efforts, Mr. Horr can justly feel that "his lines are cast in pleasant places." He is a pronounced Republican in his political relations, belongs to the fraternal order of the Woodmen of the World, has held the office of school trustee for years, his family comprises three children, Bessie, Stewart and Ruth, and he is held in high esteem as a successful rancher, a courteous neighbor and friend and a valuable citizen."

JOEL W. TYLER, Cleveland. Joel Walter Tyler was born in Portage county, Ohio, of parents who were among the pioneers of the State. During his boyhood opportunities for education were limited, but with Tyler's fondness for study no opportunity for learning could escape, and early in life he sought the companionship and intimacy of the best educated people within his reach. He was most fortunate in coming early under the influence and instruction of a gentleman of scholarly attainments, who possessed an unusual ability as an instructor. This was the local school teacher and, as he took a great interest in young Tyler, he shaped and guided his work not only while in attendance at his own school, but later when lie entered an academy in the neighborhood. So great was the boy's application to study and so unusual his ability that at the age of ten years he was far in advance of his fellows in all the elementary branches of education. He was especially proficient in arithmetic and could easily solve problems ordinarily considered too intricate for one of his years. The friend referred to, besides being the local school teacher, was also a doctor of medicine and kept young Tyler in the office as much as possible when he was hardly more than ten years old. Then, as leisure would permit, the doctor taught him phyisology, anatomy, natural philosophy and chemistry in promoting his mother's desire that he should become a physician. His mind being essentially of a logical bent he did not care for the practice of medicine, although showing ability as a student. About this time he began the study of Latin, under the instruction of a minister who took an interest in the lad. At about the age of fourteen he came into intimate association with a surveyor by profession and devoted to the study of the natural sciences. This gentleman was a '?W free thinker.'' He took the Boston Investigator, and his library contained such works as Voltaire's writings, Tom Paine's " Age of Reason" and Volney's " Ruins." Such an appreciation did this friend have for the boy's ability and learning that he engaged him when he was but fifteen to take charge of the district school, and gave him a home meanwhile. Here young Tyler had an opportunity to study the sciences, particularly astronomy, and delve in skeptical literature, butoddiy enough he believed in the teachings of Jesus and claimed to be a Christian to his dying day; but never united with a church or subscribed to the creed of any denomination. After closing his school he went to Hudson, Ohio, and entered a preparatory school for Western Reserve College. Here his eyes became affected from study, and he was obliged to give up the full course. He attended the lectures on science delivered to the senior class by those eminent scholars Loomis and St. John, and for six months he hired a person to read to him in mathematics and a Latin grammar while obliged to remain in a darkened room. He began the study of law when about eighteen under Esquire Wheaden at Hudson, with whom he remained over two years, a portion of the time studying at night and teaching during the day. On the advice of Mr. Wheaden he entered the office of Tilden & Ranney, at Ravenna, with whom he remained for a year and a half, when he was admitted to practice. After travelling through Illinois, Wisconsin and Ohio Mr. Tyler finally settled at Garrettsville, Ohio, and entered upon the practice, obtaining in a short time a clientage in Trumbull and Summit counties, as well as Portage. In 1851 lie removed to Kent, then known as Franklin Mills, where he declined a nomination for State Senator. He gave particular attention to the laws governing banking, manufacture and railroads. The mortgage drawn by him in 1851, to secure the payment of ?G4,000,000 in bonds issued by the Franklin & Warren Railroad Company was regarded as a model, and the form has generally been adopted for such instruments. From 1853, until work was suspended in 1858, he was general solicitor of the Atlantic & Great Western Railway, and in the meantime removed to Mansfield, whence in 1858 he went to Warren and formed a partnership with Judge Matthew Birchard. Mr. Tyler was an ardent Republican and participated actively in campaigns. In 1860 he was elected judge of the Probate Court. He did not enter the army on account of his official duties, but used his influence on the stump and elsewhere to secure enlistments, promising to turn over his office to any worthy lawyer who might be wounded in the service. He was re-elected and soon afterwards resigned in favor of Mr. Youmans, a wounded soldier, whose appointment he secured from Governor Brough. In 1865 Mr. Tyler removed to Cleveland to accept the solicitorship of the Atlantic & Great Western Railway. Soon afterwards he formed a partnership with Judge Rufus P. Ranney, who resigned from the Supreme Bench, and the two were associated together as solicitors of the railway company until 1869, when the financial embarrassment of the road culminated in foreclosure and a subsequent receivership. Mr. Tyler was attorney for the receivers. About the same time he became solicitor of the Cleveland, Lorain & Wheeling Railroad, and retained the position until his death. Mr. Tyler's active Republicanism brought him into contact with the leaders of the party in Ohio, and among his personal friends were Sherman and Garfield. Mr. Tyler was a man of refined taste and literary culture. Being on intimate terms with Horace Greeley he received a letter of introduction from the latter to Washington Irving, and the presentation of this letter to the popular American author was an incident cherished in his memory. Notes of the interview are published in "Irving's Life and Letters." Mr Tyler was married three times; first to Nancy V. Horr, who lived but a few7 years after marriage and left one son who has since died; second, to Sarah A. McKinney, by whom he had two sons, Charles W., a journalist, residing in New York, and William B, a lawyer, who practiced law with his lather in Cleveland until the latter's death and then removed to New York; third, the widow of James B. Parish, and whose maiden name was Emer I. Waite and who in girlhood had been a pupil of Mr. Tyler.

A Biographical record of Clark County, Ohio
CALVIN A. HORR.
Calvin Auburn Horr was for many years a prominent factor in business circles of
Springfield and at his death he left to his family not only the splendid financial result
of his labors but also an untarnished name. Everywhere in our land are found men who
have worked their own way from humble beginnings to leadership in the commerce, the
great productive industries, the management of financial affairs, and in controlling the
veins and arteries of the traffic 'and exchanges of the country. It is one of the glories of our nation that it is so. It should be the strongest incentive and encouragement to the youth of the country that it is so. Prominent among the self-made men of Ohio was the subject of this sketch, a man honored, respected and esteemed wherever known and most of all where he was best known.
Mr. Horr was 'born in Denmark, New York, August 9, 1818, and was a son of Jacob Horr, of Scotch descent. The schoolhouse which he attended was three miles from his home. He had limited opportunity for acquiring an education for his services were needed upon the home farm. He was the youngest in a family of nine children and with one exception all were sons. At the age of fourteen years he went to Mechanicsburg,
Ohio, living with his brother, Dr. Obed Horr, until he went to Jeffersonville, where he engaged in, the drygoods business for a time and then returned to Mechanicsburg,
where he again became a drygoods merchant in partnership with his brother, Dr. Horr. He came to Springfield to purchase the right of way for the Springfield, Mount Vernon & Pittsburg Railroad Company, of which he was the secretary and treasurer. His association with that company continued for a number of years and in its behalf he went to' Europe, where he spent five months, purchasing railroad iron for the construction of the road. On the expiration of that period he returned to his native land in the month of March, 1861, but sold his interest in the road in the same year. The following year Mr. Horr became a member of the firm of Wright, Horr & Bacon, wholesale grocers, and continued in that business up to the time of his death, which occurred January 21, 1873. He was a very successful business man and conducted a number of enterprises. For years he devoted his entire time and concentrated all his energies toward the supervision of the active details of his business and his was the heart to resolve, the understanding to direct, and the hand to execute all its various transactions. He also became the owner of considerable city real estate.
Mr. Horr was twice married. He first wedded Mazey Ann Owens and they became the parents of three children: Luvenia;, Llewellyn, who is living in Oklahoma; and Elijah, who died in childhood. On the 11th of December, 1845, Mr. Horr was again married, his second union being with Miss. Elizabeth Morgan, a most estimable lady, who was to him a. faithful companion and helpmate on life's journey and who still survives him.. She was a native of the city of London and in 1832, when twelve years of age, was a passenger on a westward bound sailing vessel, which dropped anchor in the harbor of New York, after a voyage of seven weeks. She came with her parents, Thomas
and Mary Morgan. Unto the second marriage five children were born : Louise, who is
now the wife of L. C. Smith, of Saginaw, Michigan; Laura, who became the wife of
Jonathan Harshman and now lives with her mother, her husband having died in 1S74;
Lucien, who is married and has five (children, and lives in Ogclen City, Utah; Mary
L., whoi was at home; and Lillian, the widow of Edward C. Leffel. She also resides
with her mother and has lost her only only son, James, who died at the age of
eighteen years.
Mr, Horr possessed many admirable qualities. His record was that of a man who by his own unaided efforts worked hisway upward to a position of affluence. His life was one of industry and perseverance and the honorable and systematic businessmethods
which he followed won him the esteem and confidence of many. Without the
aid of influence or wealth he rose to a leading position in Clark county and his native genius and unremitting diligence formed the stepping-stone on which he mounted.

NORTHERN NEW YORK
Genealogical and family history of northern New York: a record of the achievements of her people in the making of a commonwealth and the founding of a nation.
New York: Lewis Historical Pub. Co. 1910.
Transcribed by Coralynn Brown
William H. Wyeth, descendant of an old New England family, was born in Jefferson county, New York in 1826, and came to Lewis county in 1832.
He married, Feb. 25, 1851, Susan E. Anderson, who died Dec. 8, 1877.
(II) Madison J., son of William H. Wyeth, was born Oct. 5, 1865. He was educated in the common schools, graduating from the Copenhagen high school. He began his business life as a dealer in agricultural implements and machinery and continued successfully for some fifteen years. In 1890 he purchased the old homestead known as Fairlawn Stock Farm, which is pleasantly located in the village of Denmark on the old state road, affording a fine view of the Black River Valley. He has since then devoted his attention to farming and dealing in cattle, making a specialty of raising thoroughbred registered Holstein, Oxforddown, Leicester, Cotswold and Swampshire thoroughbred sheep, Bark Rock hnes, the celebrated Toulouse geese and thoroughbred bronze turkeys.
Mr. Wyeth is an enterprising and progressive farmer and makes use of all the improved farmning machinery, including a portable engine, with which he saws his lumber and wood, makes shingles and in various ways saves labor in the work of the farm. The success of his farm is seen in the large amount of stock supported by the farm.
He is a kindly, popular and highly-respected neighbor, a useful citizen and one of the substantial business men of the county.
In politics he is a Republican.
He is a member of the Denmark Grange, Patrons of Husbandry, and of Lewis County Pomona Grange.
He married, Sept. 29, 1904, Mamie E., daughter of Orville and Mary E. (Rogers) Ross. Her mother is a lineal descendant of Jonathan Rogers, a native of Branford, Connecticut, who settled in northern New York. She is a daughter of Jonathan and Lorima (Farnum) Rogers. Lorima Farnum was a daughter of Joseph Farnum Jr. Joseph Farnum Sr. came from Litchfield, Conn., with his brother, Benjamin Farnum, to Lanesborough, Berkshire county, Massachusetts.
Mr. & Mrs. Wyeth have one son: Farnam, born Jan. 5, 1906.
