James 15 November 1817 in Mason Co., KY. Stephen Heiatt was the bondsman for their marriage. This leads me to believe that Matilda may have been his step-daughter. Stephen Hieatt married, in 1803, Mrs. Mary Day who had children from a previous marriage. I think Matilda was probably one of those children. A biographical sketch of David Morris James, son of Matilda (Day) James states that his grandfather was one Morgan Day, a wealthy slave owner in Kentucky. This may or may not be accurate.
