Ruth S. (Eaton) Seymour, 93, of 24 Potwine Lane and formerly of New Salem, died on Friday, January 4, 2008 at the Center For Extended Care in Amherst, following an illness. Born on April 19, 1914 in New Salem, she was a daughter of Edward L. and Lucy A. (Freeman) Eaton and grew up in New Salem, graduating from the former New Salem Academy in 1932. She was married to Stanley E. Seymour on May 25, 1941 and have enjoyed more then 66 years together. Ruth worked as a mail clerk at Amherst College for 10 years, retiring in 1979. She previously had worked at the Butler Ulman Greenhouse in Hadley, Douglas Furniture Store, House of Walsh and Hastings Stationery. Ruth was a member of the North Congregational Church in Amherst. She enjoyed hiking, exercising with the Senior Hiking Group, and oil painting. Survivors include her husband, Stanley Seymour of Amherst; daughters, Carolyn McNary, and her husband David, of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Judy Guilford, and her husband Ted, of Lake George, NY; a son, David Seymour, and his wife Valerie, of Fairfield, Connecticut; grandchildren, Heather, Todd and his wife Suzi, Heidi and her husband Petri, and Melanie; a great grandson, Dean; a sister, Stella Haney of New Salem; and a niece, Marilyn Adams of New Salem. Ruth was predeceased by a brother, Chester Eaton of New Salem. Services and interment in Mountainview Cemetery in New Salem will be held at a later date in the spring.
