Doreen (Winters) Hoar, of Punta Gorda, FL (formerly of Farmington, West Hartford and Bristol, CT), died on Tuesday (Apr. 13, 2010) after a long battle with oral cancer. Born in Bristol on November 7, 1932, to the late Lawrence and Dorothy (Mardin) Winters, she was the beloved wife of John F. Hoar, who predeceased her in 2004. Doreen is survived by three cherished daughters: Karen Lee and her husband (Gilbert) Getz of Ft. Myers, FL, Laurie Tursi of South Windsor, and Doreen and her husband (Michael) Friel of Tampa, FL; she is also survived by six grandchildren: Eric Getz of Beaumont, TX; Cheryl Getz of Pittsfield, MA; Wayne Jr. and Matthew Tursi of South Windsor; Michael Friel of Arlington, VA; and Jennifer Friel of Los Angeles, CA; as well as four great-grandchildren: Dillon Evan and Evan Andrew Getz of Beaumont; and Madalyn Ella Nail and Rylynn Christine Lamb of Pittsfield. Doreen was a graduate of Mt. St. Joseph Academy in West Hartford and Bay Path College of Longmeadow, MA. After her retirement from CIGNA Corporation in 1990, Doreen enjoyed spending time with her husband and family. In her final years, Doreen was a devoted volunteer in the Punta Gorda area, where she enjoyed donating her time to her favorite charitable organization, St. Vincent de Paul Society. Doreen was also a bridge enthusiast. Her family extends special thanks to the loving care and support received from Doreen's wonderful physicians, Drs. Vance Wright-Browne, Nancy Hundt and Sheila Sagar, all of whom helped to enhance her quality of life? and to the expertise of Dr. Rick Liftig, whose early diagnosis gave her many additional years of life. Friends and family are invited to gather at Dunn Funeral Home, 191 West Street, Bristol, at 9 a.m. on Saturday (Apr. 17, 2010) for a procession to St. Joseph Catholic Church (the place of her marriage in 1953), Bristol, where a Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. to celebrate Doreen's life. Rights of committal will be held in St. Michael's Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA. Friends may call on Friday (Apr. 16, 2010) from 5 - 8 p.m. at Dunn's Funeral Home in Bristol. Contributions in Doreen's memory may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, 25200 Airport Rd., Punta Gorda, FL 33950-5743.

Auntie''), 89, of Farmington formerly of Bristol unexpectedly passed into eternal rest on Thursday, (April 11, 2002) in Hartford. Born January 21, 1913 in Manchester, NH, Esther was the daughter of the late Marshall and Anna (Vontell) Mardin of Bristol and the wife of the late Edward O'Neill and the late Frank Sergio. She leaves to mourn her passing her beloved nieces, Doreen (Winters) Hoar and her husband, John, of Farmington; Catherine (Oehler) Kennerson of Coventry; Noreen (Oehler) Coratola of Stow, OH; and Jean (Oehler) Balavender and her husband, Steve, of New Britain; and her beloved nephew, Bob McCarthy, of Bristol. Esther is also survived by three grandnieces and their families, Karen (Hoar) Getz, her husband, Gilbert, and their children, Eric and Cheryl, all of Beaumont, TX; Laurie (Hoar) Tursi, her husband, Wayne Sr., and their children, Wayne Jr. and Matthew, all of South Windsor; and Doreen (Hoar) Friel, her husband, Michael, and their children, Michael and Jennifer, all of West Hartford. Esther is also survived, by three beloved step-children, David Sergio and his wife, Alexandrina, of Glastonbury; Barbara Sergio of Bristol; and Judith Anderson and her husband, Joel, of Old Saybrook; and several other nieces and nephews. Esther was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters. Mrs. Sergio was a member of St. Gregory Church and a former member of Bristol Garden Society. The funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Dunn Funeral Home, 191 West St., Bristol, to St. Gregory Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 p.m.
