Mary E. Hoar 1923 - 2011 LONGMEADOW - Mary Ellen (Ferriter) Hoar passed away February 2, 2011, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Edmund J. Hoar. Mary is survived by 2 sons, James Hoar of East Longmeadow, John Hoar and his wife Mary Susan Hoar, of Pembroke; a daughter, Ann "Nancy" Alfieri and her husband Gerald, of Springfield; a brother, Maurice Ferriter and his wife Anita, of Springfield; a sister, Ann "Nancy" Kissel of Springfield; 4 grandchildren, Michael Hoar of New York, Matthew Hoar of Pembroke, Mary Kate Alfieri of Boston, Christopher Alfieri of Springfield; and her sister in law, Kathleen "Babe" Hoar. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mary will be deeply missed by all those she loved and those who loved her. Born in Springfield, Mary was the daughter of the late Timothy and Annie (Flaherty) Ferriter and was a resident of Springfield, having lived for many years on Dorset Street; until moving to Longmeadow 4 years ago. She was a graduate of Cathedral High School. Mary retired as a telephone operator from the Hampden County Jail. She also was employed as a teacher's aid for the Springfield School System, and previously had worked for Apex Cleaners, and the Springfield Telephone Company as a telephone operator. Mary was a life long parishioner of Holy Name Church, Springfield A gathering for family and friends will take place on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral, (413) 525-2800, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow Funeral ceremonies will be held on Monday. Everyone is asked to assemble in the funeral home for 8:45 AM. A procession will follow to Holy Name Church, 323 Dickinson St., Springfield, where a Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Mary will be laid to rest in St. Michael's Cemetery in Springfield. The family requests that you please omit flowers. Memorial expressions may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
