He served in the U.S. Army from 19 Feb 1943 through 28 Dec 1945. He participated in 3 major battles in WW II while serving with the 232d Combat Engineers, 77th Infantry Division on Guam, Phillippine Islands and Okinawa. He was awarded an Arrow Head for the invasion of Layte. He was discharged from Fort Leavenworth, Kansas on 28 Dec 1945. Eugene worked at John Morrill Meat Packing Plant and John Deere Works in Ottumwa, Iowa. After Morrill's closed, he & his wife moved to Clinton, Iowa and he worked at Champion Printing Company until his disability retirement. He & his wife moved to Stephenville, Texas after his retirement close to his son Harold until his death.
