[photo] Frank A Gilroy, 78, 805 N Main Ave, leading figure in NEPA dairry circles for years & leader in civic & charitable enterprises, died this morning in Moses Taylor Hospital. Associated with Woodlawn Farm & Dairy & Foremost Dairies, Inc, since 1 June 1920 & was vice president & general manager of Foremost at the time of his retirement in 1955. Born in West Scranton, son of the late Patrick H & Mary Finnerty Gilroy, his paternal grandfather, Patrick Gilroy Sr, was a member of the pioneer mercantile firm of Gilroy & Ward.. His father operated a grocery store on Pleasant Ave for many years. Mr Gilroy's first job was in the Lackawanna Ave store of Rose the Hatter. He established a milk route which developed into Royal Dairy, which merged in 1920 with Woodlawn Farm Dairy, then operated by Harry Jones..... Elected president of the Community Chest of Scranton & Dunmore (now part of the Lackawanna United Fund) in 1943.... Member of the West Scranton Hospital Board of Directors for 35 years, elected president in 1943 & served for 9 years... President of the Friendly Sons of St Patrick in 1929, on the executive committee for 45 years.... St Patrick's Church; Holy Name Society. [long list of organizations of which he was a member & served on their boards] St Patrick's High School, St Thomas College.... Married to the former May Mulcahy on 27 Jul 1910, she died 28 Jul 1953. Married the former Frances M Orr on 26 Jan 1955. Survived by his wife; a son Robert P of Scranton, wholesale sales manager for Foremost Dairies; 2 brothers, PJ 'Scotty' Gilroy, asst clerk of the House of Representatives in Harrisburg, & Joseph G of Scranton; 4 sisters, Mrs Mary G Murphy & Mrs Thomas Ryan of Scranton; Sr Lucretia, IHM, head of the music dept at Marywood; & Mrs Allen Crane of berwick. Funeral Fri from the Durkan FH, Adams Ave; St Patricks Church; Cathedral Cemetery.
