Deceased Name: GRACE GAMBLE QUIMBY DIES AT 81
Grace Gamble Quimby, 81, formerly of Watertown, daughter of the late John M. Gamble, former president and treasurer of the Brownville Board Co., died Tuesday at the Martin Luther Nursing Home in Clinton.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery.
There will be no public calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Lutheran Homes Foundation, Clinton, NY, 13323.
Arrangements are with the Owens-Pavlot Funeral Service Inc., Clinton.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Gil (Grace) Flock, Clark Mills, a son, Howard E., Whitesboro; and six grandchildren.
Three sisters, Agnes Gamble Horr, Mary Gamble Atkinson and Ethelwyn Gamble Dial, and two brothers, Willard S. Gamble and John M. Gamble Jr., died before her.
Born in Watertown Feb. 14, 1907, a daughter of John M. and Blanche Chapman Gamble, she was graduated from the Emma Willard School, Troy, in 1927. Her father was president and treasurer of the Brownville Board Co. and was involved in the paper industry in the north country.
She married Howard E. Quimby Dec. 27, 1930, at the former Gamble home, 216 Keyes Ave. At the time of her marriage, she was a laboratory technician at the House of the Good Samaritan.
For many years, Mr. and Mrs. Quimby lived in New York City and New Jersey. The couple was divorced in 1944.
Mrs. Quimby was the first woman to learn aviation at the Watertown airport. She was also active in the Red Cross for a time.
She lived at Clark Mills for over 22 years, and was a member of the Big Moose Community Chapel.
QUIMBY - In the Martin Luther Nursing Home, Clinton, Dec. 27, 1988, Grace Gamble Quimby, 81, formerly of Watertown. Funeral, 11 a.m. Thursday, First Presbyterian Church. Burial in Brookside Cemetery.
