Obituary:
WHITING - Marjorie Blake (Hill) Hoar, 86, died March 8, 2011, after a long stay at Marshall Health Care Facility, Machias. Marjorie was born Dec. 8, 1924, on the family farm on the east side of Gardner's Lake, Whiting, the youngest daughter of Fred E. and Marjorie (Gray) Hill. Marjorie spent her youth helping run the family farm and caring for her parents, to whom she was very devoted. In 1947 Marjorie married John Hoar, who remained her faithful life mate for more than 54 years until his death in 2002. Marjorie, an immaculate homemaker, lived very quietly and simply, never straying far from Gardner's Lake. She and her husband were gardeners and wild blueberry and woodland farmers. Marjorie had no children of her own, but she cared for a bevy of nieces and nephews during vacations. At times her house echoed with giggles and the pitter-patter of little feet. Marjorie lavished love on a series of dog companions, the last of which was Julie, a gorgeous English setter, who occupied her own chair at the supper table nightly. Marjorie leaves behind one sister, Laura Dennison; and her brothers-in-law, Ernest Harmon and William Hoar. Marjorie also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews and their spouses, their children and their children's children. She was predeceased by husband, John; three sisters, Jeanne Harmon, Gertrude Stuer and Edith Leighton; nephew, Terry Leighton; and great-niece, Laurie Armstrong. The family owes much gratitude to the many health care providers at Marshall Health Care Facility, who gave Marjorie excellent care. There will be no calling hours. The family will have a private funeral March 12 at the Gardner's Lake home of sister, Laura Dennison, with the Rev. Betty Duzen officiating. Burial will be at the Hill family cemetery. A service of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Homes, Machias.
