Obituary:
Gerald Hoar Jr.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Portland for Gerald Hoar Jr., who died Jan. 17 at age 74.
Mr. Hoar was born March 2, 1930, in Chicago and was raised in South Bend, Ind. He graduated from Notre Dame University and was a librarian for Cleveland State University in Ohio before moving to Portland in 1981. In 1966, he married Jean Bolinger.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Gerald III and John; daughters, Kathryn Popovich, Elizabeth Hoar and Anne Greenhoe; sister, Joan Ketterer; brother, Roger; and three grandchildren.

MCVEYTOWN ? Betty Arlene Hoar, 77, of 101 Chestnut Ridge Rd., McVeytown, passed away peacefully at her home at 12:47 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2004. She is at peace now and no longer in pain.
She was born in Perry County to the late Harvey F. and Adeline (Evans) Smith. Her husband of 61 years, William N. Hoar, whom she married on August 12, 1942, survives.
Also surviving are: a daughter, Deena Arlene Zook, Lewistown, and husband Bernie and her grandchildren Jason and Kristin; a sister, Mary Louise Grubb, York; a grandson, Ronald N. Hoar Jr. of the Pittsburgh area; her great-grandchildren Nathaniel, Keisha, Clarissa and Kimberly; a daughter-in-law, Patsy Hoar, McVeytown; two nieces; and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald N. Hoar Sr., and a brother, Robert F. Smith.
She attended Lewistown High School and later in life received her GED.
She was employed as a seamstress and trainer at Arrow Shirt Company in Lewistown for 27 years until its closing. She retired from Scotty's Fashions in 1991.
She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewistown, where she served as a children's Sunday school teacher for many years. She was an active member of the Lewistown High School and Penn Highlands High School Band Boosters organizations.
She was a volunteer for many years with the American Cancer Society's Reach for Recovery Program, touching many lives with her kindness and understanding. She also served as a director on the board of the American Cancer Society.
She loved being with family and watching her grandchildren in all their activities. She also enjoyed watching Atlanta Braves baseball and Penn State football.
Her kind and gentle nature will be missed by all whose lives she touched. She was a special angel.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 26 N. Brown St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

LEWISTOWN '97 Barbara Jean Snook, 79, of 672 Dry Valley Road, Lewistown, died at 2:30 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2007, at her residence.
Born June 21, 1927, in Mifflin County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Smith) Hoar. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph D. Snook, in 1966.
She is survived by her daughters, Charlene Rush, and her companion, James Cherry Jr., of Granville, and Tina Reed and her husband, Jeffery, of Lewistown; grandchildren, David Rush, Christopher Rush and Ryan Reed; five great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers Joseph N. Hoar, of Sanford, N.C., John I. Hoar, of Vira, Norma L. Shepherd, of Lewistown; a half-sister, Lois Kuhns, of Barrville.
She was preceded in death by a half-brother, Ronald McKinley.
She was employed as a production employee in the polyester department of the American Viscose Corp. and later at Avtex Fibers for 26 years, retiring in 1992.
She was a member of the Grace Covenant Church in Lewistown; Lewistown Moose Lodge, Women of the Moose Auxiliary and VFW No. 9103 in Spring Lake, N.C.
Her funeral will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no public viewing. Private interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Grace Covenant Church, 205 Washington Ave., Lewistown PA 17044.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown.

LEWISTOWN ? William N. Hoar, 83, a resident of Ohesson Manor Nursing Home and formerly of 45 Upper Glen Drive, Lewistown, died at 3:50 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, at the nursing home. Born Jan. 26, 1924, in Centre County, he was a son of the late Plummer and Bessie (Hackenberry) Hoar and raised by his late paternal aunt, Annie Jordan, who died in 1967. His wife, Betty A. (Smith) Hoar, preceded him in death on April 28, 2004.
Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Bernie (Deena) Zook, of 45 Upper Glen Drive, Lewistown.
Also surviving are grandchildren Jason Zook, of Burnham, Kristin Zook, of Lewistown, and Ronald Hoar Jr., of Pittsburgh, and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald M. Hoar Sr., in 1987, and a brother, Harold Hoar. He was employed at the Arrow Shirt Factory, Lewistown, International Postal Supply and last in maintenance at F.W. Black's Hospital, retiring due to disability in 1977.
He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Juniata Memorial Park Chapel with the Rev. Gary A. Roth officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests memorials be made to Mifflin-Juniata American Cancer Society, 342 S. Logan Blvd., Burnham, PA 17009.

CANON CITY, Colo. ? John Stephen Hoar, 46, died Saturday, March 27, 2004, in Canon City.
He was born Feb. 27, 1958, in Hill City to Edwin A. and Vesta Jean (Jones) Hoar.
He attended special education classes in the Hill City Schools and had been a client at Kobler Center.
Survivors include his parents, of the home; two brothers, Mike Hoar, Dodge City, and Jim Hoar, Canon City; and three sisters, Reta Martinez, Howard, Colo., Pat Pierce, Flossmore, Ill., and Kathy Pool, Garden City.
Services were March 31 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Canon City; burial in Lakeside Cemetery.
Wilson Funeral Home, Canon City, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to St. Michael Catholic Church building fund, 611 N. 11th, Canon City, CO 81212.

John Stephen Hoar, Ca?non City, CO, died March 27, 2004. He was born Feb. 27, 1958, in Hill City, Kan., to Edwin A. and Vesta Jean (Jones) Hoar. Mr. Hoar attended special education classes in the Hill City schools and then was a client at Kobler Center Workshop.
He moved to Ca?non City with his parents in December of 1989. While he lived in Ca?non City, he participated in many services and activities through Developmental Opportunities and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.
He is survived by his parents; three sisters, Reta Martinez, Howard, Pat Pierce, and Kathy Pool; two brothers, Mike Hoar, and Jim Hoar; four nephews; four nieces; two grand-nieces; one grand-nephew and many friends and caregivers.
Mr. Hoar was preceded in death by his grandparents, Eugene Jones, Marjorie Shelton Jones Stephens, Frank Hoar, and May Ann Cron Hoar and step grandfather, Harold Stephens.
Burial in Lakeside Cemetery.

Deceased Name: Shirley Mae Hoar
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 1997, in Sherwood Elks Lodge for Shirley Mae Hoar, who died May 10 at age 65.
Mrs. Hoar was born Aug. 11, 1931, in Humphrey, Neb. Her maiden name was Loseke. She graduated from Leigh (Neb.) High School in 1948. She received an associate degree in arts from a junior college in Norfolk, Neb., and a nursing degree from the University of Nebraska in 1954. She was at nurse at Emmanuel and Good Samaritan hospitals and the Bodine-Cantrell Clinic. In 1955, she married Fred T. Dorsett; they divorced in 1964. In 1971, she married Charles L., and they moved to Sherwood in 1975.
Surviving are her husband; sons, R. Craig Dorsett of Hubbard, Dale W. Dorsett of Kelso, Wash., Ian McClane of Cedar Hills, Stephen T. of Newberg and Daniel J. of San Diego; daughters, Judith A. Radke of Berkeley, Calif., and Mary L. Gustafson of Enumclaw, Wash.; brothers, Vernon Loseke of Littleton, Colo., Roger Loseke of Omaha, Neb., Glen Loseke of Columbus, Neb., and Roland Loseke of Gainesville, Fla.; sisters, LaVonne Miller of Springfield and Arlene Hald of Omaha, Neb.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Arrangements are by Attrell's Sherwood Funeral Chapel.
