Please join her family for a casual memorial gathering from 2 to 4 p.m., Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at Capitol City Baptist Church, 5990 NE 14th Street. Per her wishes, she will be cremated with a private burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Ginny was born in Burnham, PA, April 2, 1938, the daughter of Darlington and Cathrine Hoar. She had lived in Iowa for 45 years. Ginny worked at Dahl's for several years and owned Ginny's Restaurant on Lower Beaver. She also owned The Old Fashioned Lemonade stand at the Iowa State Fair for 29 years. In 1994 she sold her home in Des Moines and moved permanently to Ellston. Ginny enjoyed hummingbirds, spending time with her grandchildren, and doll collecting. Ginny is survived by her children, Jon (Betty) Wagner of Savannah, GA, Pat (Carla) Foley and Heidi Gilleland (Reynold Gogel); step-children, Pam Scheel (Bud Stout) and Lynn (Carrie) Gilleland all of Des Moines; brother, John (Nancy) Hoar of Warner Robbins, GA; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; son Martin; step-son, Marvin E. and grandson Justin Gilleland. Her family requests no flowers. Hano 1925 - 2012 SOUTH HADLEY - Carol (Hoar) Hano, 86, of South Hadley, died on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Birch Manor in Chicopee. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Brogle) Hoar and was a 1944 graduate of Holyoke High School. Carol enjoyed traveling, music, and was an avid reader. She traveled extensively in Europe, especially Spain, where she spent many winter months. Carol enjoyed spending her summers at the beach in Ogunquit Maine. Her favorite times were family gatherings and time spent with her family in Texas. Carol was truly a generous person, and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. She was never a person to ask for help, only to offer it. Her husband, Robert Hano, passed away in December of 1972. Carol is survived by her children: Carol L. Libin and her husband Michael of Lexington MA, Donna T. McCloud and her husband Linwood of South Hadley, and Robert H. Thompson and his wife Jennifer of Midland Texas, her cherished grandchildren: Sara Libin, Alyssa Foltz, Lindsay Clarke, and Robert, Emma and Benjamin Thompson, her precious great grandchildren, Jonathan and Olivia Foltz, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Friday morning at 9:00 am from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass in Saint Patrick Chapel of Saint Jerome Church at 10:00. Burial will be in Saint Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Birch Manor Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center Activity Fund, 44 New Lombard Road, Chicopee MA 01020. Ginny was known as the Welcome Wagon Hostess who met and welcomed newcomers, newborns and engaged women to the St. Johnsbury area. She was a member of the St. Johnsbury Women's club and South Congregational Church. Every Saturday she enjoyed playing duplicate bridge in Lyndonville. Survivors include her three children, Brenda Kimball Newbegin and husband David of Essex, Conn., Robert Kimball and his companion Kimberly Foran of Plainfield, and Ray Walker and his companion Tito Hernandez of Raleigh, N.C.; three grandchildren, Heather, Robin and Rebecca; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Green and wife Ellie of Hampden, Mass. and Richard Green and wife Mary of Calais, Maine; a sister, Judy King of Skowhegan, Maine; nieces and nephews.
