Georgia Alice was born to George and Edna (Tobin) Driscoll in Butte on May 28, 1927. She was raised in Dublin Gulch and was a star athlete at St. Mary's Grade School. She graduated from Butte High with the class of 1945 and three days later, on her birthday, she married David Hoar. They settled in Butte and started their family. Georgia was happiest as a wife and mother of four children. When they were all in school, she began her 25-year career at St. James Hospital where she worked in the nursery and later as a ward secretary. She also worked at Rocky Mountain Clinic and at the private office of Dr. Bartlett. Her last job was at the Belmont Senior Citizen Center where she helped with the Bingo games. She found Bingo games in many places around town and was a regular ? and lucky. Active participation at St. Mary's and St. Patrick's parishes reflected her deep faith and also allowed her to form many friendships. Certainly, the most profound friendships were formed on Belle Street where Georgia and Dave shared years of simple and ordinary family living. As a widow she felt safe and protected because she had real neighbors. She will be best remembered by her many grandchildren and great grandchildren whose special life events she would never miss. So many little hands learned rock school on her steps. And some little feet hurried to the "the dangerous" in spite of her warnings. The mud and snow of Centerville were tracked through her doors generation after generation. Her daughters remember shopping downtown with Mom and stopping at St. Mary's Church on the trudge up the hill to put down our heavy packages and make a visit. It is so comforting to know that she has finally put down all her burdens and can be with Jesus and rest. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son, David Orr, and also by her sisters Mary Kangas, Elaine Hoar, June Olson, and Jean McCracken. She is survived by her sister, Dee Dringle (Joe) and brother, Jack Dwyer (Darlene), daughters Diane Johnson, Marji McCaffery, and Mary Boognl (Al), by grandchildren Carrie Holder (Brent), Dave Orr, Tom O'Neill, Chris LaMiaux, R. J. O'Neill (Amber), Kelley O'Neill, Joe McCaffery (Toni), Scott Boognl, Al Boognl (Lori), and Adam Boognl (Jen), and by great-grandchildren Taylor, Ryan, Sidney, Trey, Kaylyn, Kolten, Kameryn, Leanna, Emma, Hannah, Ryan, Jayden, Keegan, Nolan, Noah, Kymber, Wyatt, Emily, and Magdalene, and by many wonderful nieces and nephews. The family is most grateful to the staff of the Crest Nursing Home and to Highland Hospice for their many kindnesses and professional care. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Duggan-Dolan Mortuary with the rosary at 7 p.m.. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m., followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Queen of Victory Radio in Butte or to a charity of the donor's choice. Her sister's obituary: Oregonian, The (Portland, OR) - May 12, 1996 Deceased Name: MARY EDNA ROSE KANGAS A requiem Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 13, 1996, in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church for Mary Edna Rose Kangas, a former Portland radio talk-show host and education board member. She had her own show on KKEY radio in Portland for about 10 years. She served on several state education boards during the early 1970s and recently completed eight years on the Scappoose School Board. She also was a PTA president in Portland. Mrs. Kangas was active in the Roman Catholic Church and helped bring the Society of St. Pius X to Portland. She also wrote editorials for The Hillsboro Argus and The Valley Times newspapers and was active with migrant workers in Washington County in the 1960s and 1970s. Her husband, Elmer, died in 1995. She is survived by her sons, Richard of Hillsboro, Edwin of Clackamas, Michael of Mexico and Matthew of Scappoose; daughters, Edana Bickel of Aloha, Anne Eng of Nashville, Tenn., Elizabeth McNally of Centralia, Wash., and Mary K. Jones of Scappoose; brother, Jack Dwyer of Bellevue, Wash.; sisters, Elaine and Georgia Hoar and June Olsen, all of Butte, Mont., and Dorothy Dringle of Belgrade, Mont.; 25 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Her brother's obituary: PLEVNA - Robert Fredrick "Bud" Rieger, of Plevna, passed away at the Fallon Medical Complex in Baker on Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, following a battle with cancer. Robert was delivered by his grandmother on Sept. 6, 1927, born the 15th child of Adolph and Lydia (Freier) Rieger, during one of the worst snowstorms on record. He was nicknamed "Bud" by his oldest sister, Rene, who regularly called him, "my little buddy." Bud was raised on the family ranch along O'Fallon Creek and attended grades first through third in Ismay. He then attended Plevna School from fourth grade until graduation in 1946, playing basketball and football for the Cougars. After graduation he completed U.S. Army basic training at Aberdeen Proving Grounds near Baltimore, Md., and did active service in Japan where he was an honor guard for the Japanese Sacred Gardens. Bud was honorably discharged from the army in January of 1948 and he began work in Miles City for Midland Lumber Co. He married Betty Quincer on Oct. 24, 1948, in Plevna. They resided in Miles City until the spring of 1950, when Bud got the urge to return to farming. They rented farms in the Plevna area for several years and struggled against drought, fire and severe winters. They purchased the family farm south of Plevna in 1952, which is where he resided until the time of his death. Robert's work included farming and ranching, as well as owning and operating a machinery dealership and service station in Plevna in partnership with his brother, Leon. He also devoted countless hours to community service. He served as a 4-H leader and honorary Chapter Farmer for the Future Farmers of America. He was the chairman and served on the following boards: The Peace Lutheran Church, the Plevna and Baker Elevators, the Senior Citizen's, and many others. Bud served more than 43 years as a fireman for the Plevna Volunteer Fire Department and was on the Board of Directors for the Plevna Rural Fire District, which he helped organize. During his term on the Plevna School Board, a new high school and a new gymnasium were built and the home economic and vocational agricultural programs were added. In 1975, Bud entered into an agreement with Pioneer Hybrid International to develop a new breed of cattle called RX3, later becoming president of their board. As one of the original organizers and later president of the South Sandstone Irrigation and Recreation Dam Project, Bud lobbied in Helena for funds, working with federal, state, and local agencies to bring the project to completion for the combined use of sportsman and farmers in the area. While farming he was nominated for and received second place as the USDA Montana Family Farm of the Year.
