He was born July 26, 1936, in Washington Courthouse, Ohio, to Elmer Delos and Mabel Marie Michaels Horr and lived here most of his life. Arthur retired as a journey lineman for Whitewater Valley REMC, worked six years for Meijer Department Store and was an Air Force veteran. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Ida Horr; one son, Arthur Eugene Horr Jr. of Richmond; three grandchildren, James Horr of Richmond, Tera and husband Jason Cruse of Greenfield and Jenniffer Horr of Lynn; three grandchildren, Allyssa Jho Cruse, Conner Ethyn Cruse and Tyler David Watson. Also surviving are seven brothers and sisters, Phyllis Vanlandingham of Richmond, Ronald Horr of New Castle, Patricia Gellinger of Cambridge City, Beverly Stuart of Cambridge City, Nancy Cooper of Richmond, Betty Jacoby of Cambridge City and Margaret Horr of Hagerstown; nieces and nephews and cousins. She held a variety of teaching and leadership callings in the church; her gift of teaching assisted others to a greater understanding and study of the scriptures. Glenda's desire was to be the mother of as many children as God had in mind. She is survived by eight children; Joshua, Provo; Bronwyn (Scott) Seal, Ogden; Dane, Centervile; Cameron, Provo; Megan, Natalie, Graham, Ian, all of Centerville; her mother, Melba, Vancouver, BC; a sister, DeNai (Robert) Bateman, Layton; and brothers, A. Howard, 84, of Poulin Drive, Quinebaug, died yesterday in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket, R.I., after a long illness. His wife, Marion (Horr) Howard, died Aug. 1. He leaves a nephew, Charles R. Howard of Arlington, Va.; and a niece, Mary Fuller of Tucson, Ariz. He was born in South Paris, Maine, son of Charles and Alice (Greene) Howard, and later lived in Southbridge. He lived 38 years in Quinebaug. Mr. Howard worked for 30 years in the lens division of American Optical Corp. in Southbridge, retiring in 1972. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a techical sergeant in the Asian- Pacific theater. He was at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, when it was attacked by the Japanese Dec. 7, 1941. He was a member of Elm Street Congregational Church in Southbridge and the American Optical Quarter-Century Club. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m Tuesday in Bullard's Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St., Southbridge. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery. He was born in Richmond on Feb. 19, 1922, the son of Raymond and Florence Belle (Hatfield) Laymon, and was a life long resident of Wayne County. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Charles was former president and general manager of Miller Brothers Hardware Co. and retired as hardware manager of Hex Department Store. He served for many years as clerk-treasurer of Greens Fork Town Board. Survivors include three sons, Mark Laymon (Linda) of Richmond, David Laymon (Marilyn) of Clarksville, Tenn., and Jon Laymon of Greens Fork; five daughters, Karen Showalter (Mike) of Fountain City, Jana Laymon and Jill Ullery, both of Greens Fork, Shannon Laymon and Kelli Laymon, both of Hagerstown; nine grandchildren, Aimee Pasquier, Christina Laymon, Michael Laymon, Mara Schwab, Stacey Knose, Duane Laymon, Jennifer Hawkins, Joshua Laymon and Heather Green; nine great-grandchildren; a brother-in law, Owen Hoover of Lake City Fla.; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Allread of New Lebanon, Ohio; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary J. College Ave., and lived there all his life, died in the same house early Thursday following a short illness. A monument engraver by trade, Mr. Howard had worked for various companies in the Waukesha for many years before he opened his own business. Failing health forced him to retire about 10 years ago, so he closed the business, but continued to live in his birth place. He was a charter member of the Waukesha Eagles Club. Mr. Howard leaves five daughters, Mrs. Morris Reeves, Pewaukee; Mrs. William Haig, Chicago, and Mrs. Andrew Cleveland, Mrs. George Horr, and Mrs. Claude Zahnzinger, all of Waukesha; and five sons Robert, Frank, James of Waukesha; Joseph, [of] Madison; and Richard, [of] Chicago.
