At this time, we assume this Wood line is an NPE out of the Charles Hoare line. Simply because the MRCA for EKA Charles Hoare is father back than for Abner Wood. It is also interesting to note that a different grandson of Leonard Hoar (a Nathan Hoar Jr) supposedly had a son Milton Hoar. Milton has a court record of having his familys' surname changed to Woodville. Milton and all of Nathan's children are born around the same time as Abner Wood.
It should be noted that the vast majority of Ancestry trees have this Abner Wood as marrying an Ann Dale and dying in England. This has yet to be disambiguated with those here who say he moved to New York and married Betsy. Likely, Abner Wood was born in America due to the closeness in matching to the Charles Hoare line that had been in America for over 100 years by then.
DNA Analysis
This group is matching as close as a GD 3 (FTDNA style) on y111 STR markers to our Charles Hoare family branch. See the B00 Charles Hoare page for more information about the strong genetic match to this family line. The Abner Wood group has a unique STR value common to them. They match y111 STRs most closely to the MRCA Leonard Hoar descendants (a great-grandson of Charles Hoare).
There are two deep SNP testers in the Wood line (one on Nebula) and three on the Charles Hoare line. Two in the Charles Hoare line have a MRCA of Leonard Hoar born 1682 in Massachusetts. They are also the closest STR matches to the Wood line. Interestingly, although we do not necessarily agree with the FTDNA analysis at this time, the two Wood deep SNP testers and one of the Leonard Hoar testers are placed in the I-FT409631 haplogroup below I-A8592 that the other Charles Hoare deep SNP testers are in. This lower haplogroup is a single SNP. That particular Charles Hoare line tester is down from Leonard via a unique son Joseph b.1707 and his son Samuel b.1746. Samuel could be a possible father to Abner Wood base on relative age at the time of Abner's birth.
STR markers predict I1-L338 which is an ancestor to the deep SNP testing haplogroup of I-A8592.
