The first real personal Genetic Genealogy was introduced through the use of yDNA STR testing in 2000 by FTDNA. But oddly, it is the least well defined in terms of public databases documenting the markers. Even though there was much overlap in names in the early test panels from multiple companies, the markers themselves are not defined. While the first 111 markers are considered well named and use FTDNAs product names and order, the greatly expanded markers pulled out by FTDNA and yFull for use on their sites as a result of NGS are not defined anywhere. Not even clear if there is overlap in the names between the two companies. For some reason, yBrowse has chosen not to expand to include the STR markers.
