Deceased Name: PEKAREK
PEKAREK, Amy Marie - Age 88, of Owosso, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2002 at her residence. Mrs. Pekarek retired from Drew's Juvenile Shoe Store in 1972 after 25 years of service. Funeral services were held 11AM Wednesday, August 7, 2002 at Nelson-House Funeral Home, 120 E. Mason St., Owosso, MI with Rev. Fr. Barry A. Lewis, O/OSB officiating. Private burial will be held Friday at Sunset Hills in Flint. Amy was born February 12, 1914 in Easton, MI, the daughter of Joseph and Eva (Hozak) Stasa. Amy grew up on a farm and always loved being outdoor enjoying her yard and flowers. She also loved to bake and was a devoted mother, caring neighbor, and faithful friend. On September 9, 1933 she married, Peter Pekarek. Amy is survived by 2 daughters, Jean Hoard, of Grand Blanc, and Susan Pekarek, of Owosso; 3 grandchildren, Lisa Gratsch of Detroit, David Hoard of Phoenix, AZ and Scott Hoard of Marietta, GA' 2 great-grandchildren, Donnie and Tyler Gratsch; 2 brothers, Edward Sumbera, of Chesaning, and Frank Sumbera, of Gaylord; special "son of her heart", Bob Williams and dear friend, Erma Friese. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter in 1988; son, James in 1962; son-in-law, Ray Hoard in 1985; sister, Anna Tomcala; and brothers, Joseph and Henry Stasa. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to J. Shah, MD and all the doctors at Vascular Surgery Associates for many years of compassionate care. The family request memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to Genesys Hospice, 7280 S. State Rd., Goodrich, MI 48438. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
