ONAWA, Iowa -- Flora Rose Kelly, 101, of Onawa died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa, where she had made her home for the past 13 months.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Don Collison officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.
Flora was born Feb. 3, 1906, near Blencoe, Iowa, the daughter of Charles F. and Effie M. (Gross) Hoar. She graduated from Blencoe High School in 1924, then completed Normal training in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She taught in a country school for two terms.
On March 21, 1926, she married Walter Leo Kelly in Onawa. They farmed south of Onawa and she did wallpapering as a business. Mr. Kelly died Feb. 5, 1972, in Onawa. She lived all her life in the Onawa area.
She was a member of First Christian Church and Order of the Eastern Star Queen Esther 222, where she served two terms as a Worthy Matron. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, tatting and reading.
Survivors include her daughter, Joyce Mander of Whiting, Iowa; a granddaughter and her husband, Dorothy and Richard Wade of Onawa; two great-grandchildren, Dayne Wade of Michigan and Kelly Wade Black of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter' a brother, George Hoar; and four sisters, Eva Anderson, Ida Nelson, Mable Anderson and Stella Vincent.
