Mrs. Hoar, 78, Dies Following Short Illness. Petoskey___ Mrs. Grace A. Hoar died Friday morning after a few days illness at her home in Bliss Township. She had suffered a stroke several days ago. She was 78 years old. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Monday from the Bliss Church with Rev. Walter Buck officiating. Burial will be in Bliss Cemetery. The body is at the residence. Mrs. Hoar was born April 13, 1873, in Ross, Kalamazoo County. In 1879 she came to Cross Village with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Merrill C. Crandall, and attended school in Harbor Springs. At the age of 16 she started teaching school at the Shorter School, teaching until her marriage to Andrew Hoar on Aug. 9, 1897, in Petoskey. They made their home in Center Township until 40 years ago when they moved to their present home in Bliss. Mrs. Hoar was a member of the Cross Village Presbyterian Church and active in the Canby Sunday School. Surviving are her husband, Andrew; two daughters, Mrs. Harry H. Staley of Detroit and Mrs. Mervin Schmalzried of Levering, and five grandchildren.
