Horr Dies
GREAT BEND ? Lewis. Z.
Horr, 81, formerly of Great
Bend, died Saturday evening
in the Good Samartian hospital,
Dayton, 0., where he had
been a patient one week.
The funeral will be Wednesday
at 8:30 a.m., at" the Clark
funeral home, Black River,
and at 9 at St. Rita's church.
Deferiet, with Rev. John M
Crable, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in St. James'
cemetery, Carthage.
Friends may call at the funeral
home Tuesday afternoon
and evening.
Surviving are two sons,
Lloyd M., Goffstown, N.H.,
and Erwin R., Dayton, O.,
with whom Mr. Horr was living;
four grandchildren, two
great-grandchildren, an aunt,
Miss Lotta Lennon, Liverpool.
He was born Dec. 1, 1887
at Cape Vincent, a son of
William D. and Jennie Len-
non Horr. He left Cape Vin
cent in 1908 for Harrisville,
where he worked as a telegraph
operator for the railroad,
and married Miss Dora
E. Countryman March 17,
1909. The couple came to
Great Bend in 1911, and Mr.
Horr worked for the Sherman
Paper company, and later for
the St. Regis Paper company,
Deferiet, as a beater engineer.
He retired in 1953.
He sold his home here in
1964 after the death of his
wife on Aug. 20. 1963 and
lived at Carthage for a year
before going to the home of
his son, Lloyd, at Goffstown.
On-July-30,-1966. he went-to
live with his other son, Erwin,
In Dayton.
Mr. Horr, always active In
civic organizations, was at
one time the town of Champ,
ion tax collector, a forme?
president of the Great Bend
Fire department, a deputy
fire coordinator of Jefferson
county, secretary of the Jefferson
County and Northern
New York Volunteer Firemn's
association, treasurer of
the County Fire Chief's asso
ciation, a trustee and treasurer
of the Great Bend
grange, and a member of
Carthage Council 291, K of C.
