Obituary:
Funeral services for C. Clyde Smiley, 89, of Ellery Center, who died at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday (July 3, 1968) at his home, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Powers Funeral Home. The Rev. Wayne J. Hamilton, pastor of the Fluvanna Community Church will officiate. Burial will be in Fluvanna Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Jamestown Lions Club. They will receive friends at Powers Funeral Home from 2-4 nd 7-9 p.m. today.
A lifelong resident of this area, Mr. Smiley as a young man, worked on Chautauqua Lake steamers and for some time operated a passenger launch from Fluvanna to Celoron. He also operated a garage at Ellery Center for more than 20 years and later drove a bus for the Ellery Center School District.
Mr. Smiley was born Nov. 13, 1878, in Ellery Center, a son of Freborn L. and Anna Brown Smiley. He and his wife, Mrs. Laura Porter Smiley were married Oct. 19, 1912 at services in Westfield.
Mr. Smiley was a member of the Exempt Firemen's Association and was a charter and life member of the Ellery Center Volunteer Fire Department.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Freeburn E. Smiley, Elyria, O.; and Robert Porter Smiley, Webster, N.Y.; two daughters, Mrs. J. Oliver Ralph, Lakewood; and Miss Lee Judy Smiley, Rochester; two grandsons, George E. Smiley, Elyria, and Gary E. Miller, Lakewood; four granddaughters, Mrs. William R. Boggs, San Clemente, Calif.; Miss G. Lynette Miller, Atlanta, Ga.; Miss Suzanne P. Smiley and Miss Kimberly D. Smiley, both of Webster; and three great grandchildren, Jack Ray Curtis II, Elyria; William R. Boggs Jr., and Michele Boggs, San Clemente.
