The Reverend Lyle W. Moyer, 89, of Coal Valley, Illinois, formerly of Easley, South Carolina, died Monday, March 5, 2012, in Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012, at First Bible Missionary Church, Coal Valley. Entombment is in the Robinson Memorial Gardens in Easley following services in Easley. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Memorials may be made to the Bible Missionary Institute, Rock Island, Illinois, or Foreign Missions of the Bible Missionary Church.
Lyle William Moyer was born March 9, 1922, in Hartman, Colorado, the son of Milton Oscar and Effie Ann Hoar Moyer. He married Evangelist Ina Shiery on September 22, 1940, in Canyon City, Colorado. She died March 20, 2001. Rev. Moyer was ordained in July, 1941, and served churches in Colorado, Nebraska and Iowa. He joined the Bible Missionary Church in 1956, and pastored the denomination's fifth church in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He and his wife served as missionaries in British Guiana, and he then pastored churches in Alabama, Illinois, and South Carolina. He was active in the Bible Missionary Church, and was the first District Moderator of the church's Iowa-Illinois District, and was instrumental in founding the Bible Missionary Institute in Rock Island, Illinois, and the Beulah Mountain Christian Academy in Beulah Heights, Kentucky.
The church was his life, and up until his death, he went every day to the Bible Missionary Institute, and last week, attended the church's revival in Coal Valley for six nights. He loved singing and music, and taught himself to play the saxophone and the guitar. He was currently a member of First Bible Missionary Church, Coal Valley.
Lyle is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Rodger L. and LaNelda Moyer of East Moline, Illinois, and Rev. Russell G. and Sharon Moyer of Coal Valley; a daughter-in-law and her husband, Loretta and Byron Masters of Easley, South Carolina; ten grandchildren and their spouses, Paula and Wesley Welch, Carla and Kevin Southerland, Matt and Susan Moyer, Marcus and Julie Moyer, LeAnne Pruett, Dwight and Melody Moyer, Rodney and Sherry Moyer, Robbey and Laura Moyer, Russell and Angie Moyer, and Melanie and Dustin Cable; 29 great-grandchildren; and an adopted son and his wife, Edwin L. and Joan Hesseltine and their family of Tullahoma, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his wife, a son, David Moyer, and a brother, Lewis Edwin Moyer.
