Joseph I. Rimmel
WWII veteran was retired coal miner
Joseph I. "Jody" Rimmel, 74, of Dilliner R.D.1 (Moffitt), died Thursday, July 30, 1998, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va. He was born October 13, 1923, in Gray's Landing, a son of Joseph and Cora Hughes Rimmel. Mr. Rimmel was a coal miner. He retired from Buckeye Coal Co., Nemacolin Mine, and was a member of UMWA Local 6290. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army military police, and was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with five bronze stars. He was a member of American Legion Post 499 and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 747, both in Point Marion. Surviving are his wife, Ann Hoar Rimmel; a son, Charles "Bud" Rimmel of Dilliner; two daughters, Josephine Rawlings of Dilliner and Karen Morris of Greensboro; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a son, Joseph Rimmel; a daughter who died in infancy, Sandra Jean Rimmel; a great-grandson; two sisters, Minnie Anderson and Cora Rimmel; and four brothers, Ralph Mahlon Rimmel, Charles Rimmel, and Leslie and Jasper Rimmel, who died in infancy.
