Deceased Name: John W. Curran, Westfield lawman
John W. Curran, 76, of 50 Massey St. died Wednesday in Noble Hospital. He was a 34-year patrolman in the Police Department. He was appointed on Oct. 14, 1949, and retired on May 31, 1983. He carried Badge No. 2. He was born here, and was a lifelong resident. He attended the city schools, and was a graduate of St. Mary's High School. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, and sang in its choir.
He belonged to American Legion Post 124, the Sons of Erin, the YMCA, and the parish's Curcillo Group.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and served in the Pacific theater.
He leaves his wife, the former Barbara J. Hoar; three sons, Michael J., Thomas L., and David P. of Westfield; a daughter, Nancy Goodniss of Westfield, and three grandchildren.
The funeral is scheduled Monday morning at Robert E. Cusack Funeral Home and the church, with the burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.
The calling hours are scheduled Sunday afternoon and evening, and memorial contributions may be made to the church at 6 Union St., Westfield, 01085.
