Deceased Name: ROSE MAYS PEPPER
ROSE MAYS PEPPER, 73, of Memphis, died Thursday, April 12, 2007 at Baptist Memphis Hospital after a courageous battle with diabetes. Visitation will be held from 12-2 p.m. Monday, April 16, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memorial Park South Woods Cemetery located on Hacks Cross Road. Rose was born September 20, 1933 and was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Johnson and Daisy Lee Mays; sisters, Ruby Lee Small and Mary Ruth Petty. Rose is survived by her husband, Walter M. Pepper, Jr.; three children, Lilia Lee Ann Nolan, Heather Claire Pepper, and Walter "Trey" M. Pepper III; one sister, Carolyn Hawkins; brothers, Edward Mays, Jr. and Reverend Charles Mays. Also survived by six grandchildren, Timothy Lane Dills, Pepper Nichole Dills, Savannah Rose Dills, Keri Patience Pepper, Stephen John Horr, and James Awsten Arterburn. Rose grew up in Water Valley, MS. She was a graduate of Water Valley High School. She was an outstanding student, cheerleader, homecoming queen, competitive tennis player and enjoyed summers at Sardis Lake. She attended the University of Mississippi on a scholarship. Following college Rose moved to Memphis and worked as office manager for Bluff City Buick where she met and married Mack Pepper in 1964. Rose became a Realtor in 1966, a few years later she founded her own company Rose Pepper Realty, she had many successes; Award and Recognition of Memphis Area Association of Realtors, 1968-1969 Realtor-Associate of the Year, Charter Life Member of the Multi-Million Dollar Club, 2-year Director of the Board of Directors, 1975-1976, 1978 President of the Women's Council of Realtors, and a 2006 Recipient of the Realtor-Emeritus designation. In her later years she received yet another title, Meeme as she was called by her grandchildren whom she loved dearly. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association.
