vi. JAMES WILLIAM CLIFFORD was born in 1874 in East Mountain, Colchester
CountyNova Scotia. He died on 21 May 1946 in Chase, B.C.. He married ETHEL
MAY MCNUTT on 22 Sep 1904, daughter of William B McNutt and Mary B ?. She
was born on 03 Feb 1884 in Brookside, Colchester County, NS.

Obituary

Word has been received by re;relatives here of the sudden passing at Chase,
British Columbia , on May 21, of James William Clifford, age 73. Mr Clifford was in
his usual health until a month ago, when he entered kamloops Hospital for
observation and treatment. He returned home, apparent his old self again, but
passed away in his sleep that night.
Mr Clifford was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Clifford of Manganese Mines
and later of Brookside, so was a brother of R. Scott Clifford of Brookside and of
Mrs W.R. Retson of Ryland Avenue, Bible Hill. He learned the trade of Blacksmith
with the late Charles Dickson at Central Onslow, then went West for a short time.
Returning, he conducted his own business on the site of the present McLellan
Garage, Central Onslow.
Over 30 years ago , he went to British Columbia to make his permanent home and
carried on trade there until he retired. HIs wife, the former Maie McNutt of
Brookside, predeceased him a number of years ago,. They had no family.
Funeral services was held from the church, in which for many years he had served
as Superintendent of the Sunday School.
possessed of a particularly genial disposition , Mr Clifford made friends everywhere
he went.. those in the East were looking forward to renewing that fellowship this
summer, as he had made plans to visit Nova Scotia in June, his last visit home
having been made in 1920.
vii. NOBLE CLIFFORD was born in 1876. He died on 26 May 1878 (age 1 Yr 10 Months).
viii. LENA M. CLIFFORD was born in 1880. She died on 27 Feb 1901 (age 21 yrs).
ix. SARAH PEARL CLIFFORD was born on 25 Jun 1882. She died on 20 Jan 1902 (age
19 yrs).
x. BEATRICE MARY CLIFFORD was born on 16 Feb 1887 in Brookside, Colchester
County, N.S.. She died on 16 Sep 1958 in Truro, Colchester County, N.S. Canada.
She married WILLIAM RANKIN RETSON on 25 Dec 1907 in Onslow, Colchester
County, Nova Scotia, son of George Retson and Mary McManus. He was born on
22 Feb 1884 in Townhead, Fenwick, Ayrshire, Scotland. He died on 14 Jul 1975 in
Bible Hill, Colchester County, Nova Scotia, Canada.
