William Hoard was/is my husband's 2nd great grandfather and I have had a very difficult time tracing him. So far I cannot connect him to any of the Hoards altho per a letter from his daughter, Nellie Minerva, to her husband, she refers to a Frank Hoard who was living in Michigan at the same time they were. I have traced him to be a son of Henry Hoard (son of Hezekiah b. 1784), & was related to Nellie. Nellie's mother's maiden name was Wightman (also spelled Weightman, Whitman or Whiteman). Thomas Hoard was given his mother's maiden name as his middle name. Thus Thomas Wightman Hoard. I have traced the Wightman family back to the 1500s in England but the Hoard line is stuck at William. Nellie Minerva Hoard married DeWitt Darius (or Darius DeWitt) Crofoot. Back in the day (as the say) forenames & middle names were switched often. That makes for a lot of confusion when doing research. Darius was DeWitt's father's name; don't know where the DeWitt came from, but my husband's father was named that as well as his brother & nephew. Nellie Hoard Crofoot has a memorial on Find a Grave: I added a photo to it. So far on my husband's side I can't connect William to anyone, yet. In the Crofoot line, I can only go back to the first Darius' father, Andrew. Very frustrating but I keep trying.
