Obituary:
Mildred M. Hoard
Mildred was born in Marquette on September 16, 1898. She was the eldest of five children born to Frank H. and Elizabeth (Saddler) Hoard. When Mildred was four, her father's work took the family to the Sault and then to Haileybury, Ontario. A forest fire that destroyed their home in Haileybury precipitated the family's return to Marquette.
Mildred graduated from high school in Marquette and went on to a career as a secretary and accountant. She worked for some thirty years for the Delft Theater. When the theater moved its offices to Wisconsin, she took a job with the Dodge dealership. She also worked in the business office at Northern Michigan University. She retired in 1963.
She had an amazing enthusiasm for life. She loved to travel; she loved to walk on the beach and swim in Lake Superior; and she loved board and card games, her favorites being Scrabble and bridge. Central to her life was her Catholic faith, and she was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.
She was predeceased by her brothers Frank and William and sisters Gladys and Marion. She is survived by her nieces Patricia Jaskula and Susan Hoard and nephews Richard (Shirley) Densmore and Francis "Mike" Hoard, as well as several grand nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Wednesday, February 22, 2006 in St. Christopher Church on Badger St., with Father Greg Heikkala officiating. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation will begin at St. Christopher Church at 9:00 am Wednesday. The Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home is assisting the family.
