      HOLYOKE, Mass. (1921-2011) - Timothy J. Foley, Sr., 89, of East Longmeadow and a former resident of Morison Terrace in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 19, 2011 surrounded by his loving family at the Soldier's Home in Holyoke.
      Timothy was born in Springfield on April 5, 1921 one of nine children of the late Michael and Mary (Fitzgerald) Foley and was a graduate of Cathedral High School. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy and attained the rank of Torpedo Man's Mate Second Class. Timothy served aboard the USS Muskellunge and the USS Gudgeon submarines and received the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theatre Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal for his service. He was employed as a Court Officer for 41 years with the Probate and Family Court of Hampden County and retired as the Chief Court Officer. Timothy also was a Deputy Sheriff with the Hampden County Sheriff's Department. He was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Hope Church and was a member of the American Legion Post # 430, both in Springfield. Timothy also was a member and coach of the Van Horn Athletic Association in Springfield. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at his cottage on Lake George in Wales, MA and recent summers at the family beach home in Narragansett, RI.
      In addition to his parents, Timothy was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Marguerite M. (Murphy) Foley who passed away on February 1, 2003; and by his brothers and sisters, Michael, John Morg, James, Thomas, Mary, Helen and Catherine Foley, and Ann Hoar. Timothy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him including his sons, William M. Foley and his wife Colleen Leary Foley of Springfield, Timothy J. Foley, Jr. and his wife Debra A. Foley of Chicopee, and John M. and his wife Susan M. Foley of East Longmeadow; his grandchildren, Matthew, Evan, Chelsea, Timothy III, Taylor, Thomas and Griffin; his sister in law, Joan Foley of Springfield; and his many nephews and nieces and many extended family members and friends.
      Timothy's family will receive friends on Sunday January 23, 2011 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, 21 Tinkham Road in Springfield. Funeral services will be held on Monday January 24, 2011 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres Funeral Home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, with Rites of Committal, Naval Military Honors and Interment to follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, 1601 State Street, all in Springfield. Donations may be made in Timothy's memory to the Soldier's Home in Holyoke Patient Activities Fund, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.

      SPRINGFIELD - Helen M. Foley, 95, formerly of Miller Street in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield died Sunday afternoon November 15, 2009 surrounded by her family in Mercy Medical Center, Springfield. Helen a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Fitzgerald) Foley was born in Springfield on September 19, 1914. Helen was the retired Clerk of Courts in the Hampden County Hall of Justice, Superior Court. A lifelong resident of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, Helen was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Hope Church. Her great grand niece Maeve said "Auntie Helen loved chocolate." In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by her brothers, Thomas, Michael, Morg, and James Foley; her sisters, Anna Hoar, Mary Foley and Catherine Foley. She is survived by a brother, Timothy J. Foley of East Longmeadow and formerly of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield; a sister-in-law, Joan Foley of Springfield; along with many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, great grand nieces and great grand nephews. Family and friends are asked to meet on Saturday morning November 21, 2009 at Our Lady of Hope Church, Armory Street, Springfield to Celebrate the Liturgy of Christian Burial for Helen at 10 a.m. Rites of Committal and Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield. Memorial contributions in Helen's memory may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104 and or to the Sisters of St. Joseph, Mont Marie, 34 Lower Westfield Road, Holyoke, MA 01040.       SPRINGFIELD - Thomas P. Foley, 81, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield died on Saturday January 12, 2008 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Springfield on February 14, 1926 a son of the late Michael and Mary (Fitzgerald) Foley and was a graduate of Springfield Trade High School. Thomas served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the South Pacific. He had a distinguished career as a correctional officer for 40 years under the direction of three sheriffs at the Hampden County Sheriffs Department, retiring as a Lieutenant. Thomas was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Church and a member of the American Legion Post # 420, the John Boyle O'Reilly Club, and the Hungry Hill Reunion Committee, all in Springfield. He was a lifelong resident of Springfield and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Thomas is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joan (Cronin) Foley; his four daughters, Joanne O'Keefe of Springfield, Maura Miller of Longmeadow, Kate Costa of Belchertown and Geraldine Foley of Springfield; his eight grandchildren; a brother, Timothy J. Foley of East Longmeadow; a sister, Helen Foley of Springfield; and his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters and his brothers, Ann Hoar and Mary, Michael, James and John More Foley. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday January 15th from 4 to 7 p.m. at Sampson's Funeral Home, 710 Liberty Street in Springfield. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday January 16th at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Hope Church, at the corner of Armory and Carew Streets in Springfield. Burial will be private in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
