Obituary:
FALL RIVER ? Gerald "Jerry" P. Hoar, 83, a lifelong resident of Fall River, died Monday, July 19, 2010, at the Catholic Memorial Home in Fall River. Born in Fall River, the son of the late John and Rose (Hurst) Hoar, he was the husband of Vivianne L. (Gendreau) Hoar, with whom he shared a fifty-three year marriage.
A 1946 graduate of BMC Durfee High School, Jerry served his country during WWII with the United States Navy. Following the completion of his military service, he joined the uniform patrol for the City of Fall River Police Department in 1951. He was assigned as a detective and, most notably, in the traffic unit where he was a motorcycle officer. He received several commendations during his tenure with the department. He later worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a State Investigator.
After he retired, Jerry worked as a security officer in the Swansea Mall for several years. He was a lifetime member of the Fall River Lodge of Elks, a member of the Massachusetts Police Association, the American Legion and the Retired County and Municipal Employee's Association.
In addition to his wife, Jerry leaves a son, Police Sergeant Michael K. Hoar and his wife Suk Kyong of Fall River; two daughters, Cheryl Narcizo and her husband John and Jennifer Kaliff and her husband Timothy, all of Fall River. He was the loving grandfather of JT, Nicholas, Michael, Jesse, Emily and Benjamin. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mr. Hoar was the brother of the late James Hoar, John W.C. Hoar and Lucille (Daley) Hoar.
