Robert C. Hoar, 92, of Port Washington, died March 29, 2012. Born in Norwood, MA, in 1919 to Walter and Dorothy Hoar, he graduated from Millis High School, and served with the U.S. Navy Seabees in the Pacific during WWII. He was associated with Browne and Sharpe, a Rhode Island based machine tool manufacturer, for his entire career. He was an active member of the Little Neck Bay Power Squadron for more than 50 years and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Ethel Mahoney Hoar, and his sister, Joanne Andrews, as well as his children, Kathleen and William Finnerty, William and Phyllis Hoar, Pamela Hoar, and daughter-in-law Gail Kennedy Hoar. He was predeceased by his son James Hoar, sisters, Shirley Hoar and Patricia Spirito and brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Margaret, Thomas and Catherine and George Mahoney. He is also survived by grandchildren, Karen, Meaghan, Michael and Thomas Finnerty, Robert, Margaret and Catherine Hoar and Patrick, Brian, and Melissa Kennedy, and his nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Funeral arrangements were handled by Austin F. Knowles Funeral Home, Port Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 2 at St. Peter of Alcantara RC Church. The interment followed at Nassau Knolls Cemetery. Donations in Bob's memory may be sent to the Port Washington Fire Department, Fire Medic Company #1 or to the Disabled War Veterans.
