LONGMEADOW - Rita Mary (Hoar) Thrasher Stephenson, of Longmeadow died on Saturday April 23rd. Born in Springfield, she was the daughter of the late James J. Hoar and Mary E. (Noonan) Hoar. She graduated from the High School of Commerce, class of 1932. She moved to Emerson Manor in Longmeadow in 1980. There she was active in its Residents Association. She was retired from the Henry M. Clark and Co. Insurance Office, having previously worked at S.G. Simmons Co., the accounting department of Monarch Life Insurance Company, and spent several years as the office manager of accounting in the Chancery of the RC Diocese of Springfield for Bishop Weldon. Rita was an artist and a former member of the Springfield Art League. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Longmeadow and a member of its choir and Women's Guild. She was married to Edwin W. Thrasher, who died in 1956. Her second husband, Paul P. Stephenson died in 1972. She was also predeceased by her sister, Katherine E. Duffy and her brother, James E. Hoar. Rita leaves a daughter, Janet Thrasher Desnoyers and son-in-law, Raymond J. Desnoyers of Longmeadow; a stepdaughter, Bambah-Jean Riedel of Evanston, IL and several grand-nephews and nieces. Family and friends are invited to meet on Tuesday, April 26th at 10 a.m. for a Liturgy of Christian burial in St. Mary's Church, 519 Longmeadow St., Longmeadow. Burial will be private.
