He had been bedfast for only a few days but was ailing for some months previous. Born in Germany, Mr. Spieles came to America when a young man and for the past 35 years has been a resident of Locust Dale. He worked about the mines, chiefly at the Potts. Surviving is the widow and the following children: Mathias Jr., at home; John, of Locust Dale; Mrs. John Madden, of Ashland; Mrs. Thomas Langdon and Mrs. Anna Hoar, of Girardville; Mrs. Thomas Kerrigan, of Locust Dale; Anna and Vincent at home. Twelve grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Angeline Adolph of Philadelphia also survive. Funeral services under the direction of Kull Brothers will be made public later.
