<http://burnstimesherald.info/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/OBIT-Curtis.jpg>Lowell Roy "Sonny" Curtis, 73, of Sandy, passed away Nov. 12, 2013.
He was born Feb. 6, 1940 in Burns, attended school there, and graduated from Burns Union High School. After enlisting in the Army, where he served in the 114th Airborne Division as a sharpshooter and paratrooper, he attended Treasure Valley Community College, where he learned to fly.
On April 24, 1965, Roy married Pamela Davidson. Soon after the birth of son, Troy, and daughter, Tamera, the family moved to Sandy, where their daughter, Tracy, was born. Roy lived in Sandy for nearly 38 years.
He continued to fly, sometimes as a flight instructor or as a pilot for others, but his "job" was as a truck driver for several retail companies for years. In 1975, he was baptized as a Jehovah's Witness, and was active in the ministry. With retirement, he raised cows and goats, puttered, had the occasional trucking trip, and took an active part in his grandchildren's lives.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela; son, Troy Curtis; daughters, Tamera Curtis and Tracy Curtis-Trevillyan; grandchildren, Brandon Bennett Curtis, Kasey Bennett Curtis, Destiny Curtis, Cleopal Trevillyan, Tysen Curtis, Tyler Curtis and namesake D'Artagnan Lowell Curtis; great-granddaughters, Hailey, Natalie and Arainna.
Roy is also survived by his mother, Norma Whiting Curtis of Burns; sister and brother-in-law, Gayle and Robert Hoar of Bend; sister and brother-in-law, Kelli and Lebron Hendon of Umatilla; nephews, Keenan and Kevin Hoar, Christopher and Travis Hendon; and niece, Megan Hendon.
He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Curtis; and his brother, Patrick Curtis.
A graveside service was held Nov. 19, 2013, at the Burns Cemetery.
