    • [[Notes for LESTER MELVIN "Buck" MOYER:
Occupation:Musician, Carpenter, Auto Mechanic, Sheet Metal Worker.
Dad has a natural talent for music and has much ability in any endeavor. He lacks a formal education (as do many from this era) . He is able to play just about any instrument that he desires. His love is the banjo and in his prime was offered his own radio show but refused it. During his time with the Federal Theatre he displayed many other talents that he didn't know he had. He sang, danced, acted and had to take a crash course of six weeks where he learned all of his music theory and to read music. Up until this time he played strictly by ear. (As a child he would not allow me to play by ear. He wanted me to learn to read music only so as not to have to learn as he did. As a result I have never been able to just sit down and play but I was always able to pick up melodies, words and rythem for singing with no trouble.)
His mother married Emory Case when Dad was only 3 years old so was raised as nearly an only child as his siblings were so much older than he. Grandpa Case took him and Grandma to an island in the Sand-heads of the Straights of Juan de Fuca , in Canada, where he spent most of his teens.
One of his stories of this time happened when he was about 16. He was out fishing and a squal came up. He headed for some cover in a cove in the cliffs. He turned his flashlight to look around and found he was alone in an Indian Buriel Ground. The bodies had been stood upright in niches in the cliffs. Needless to say, storm or no storm, he was out of there in a hurry.
During World War II he worked in the shipyards in Seattle as a leadman. It was during this time that he played for many USO shows and Bond Drives. He had me sing and dance in many of them.Occupation:Musician
After Mom was killed when their house burnt, Dad moved to the Lewiston/Clarkston area to be nearer to his brothers and sisters.
