      Obituary:
      SPENCER, Iowa Paul Strautz, 91, of Marshall, Minn., formerly of Spencer, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Prairie House Hospice House in Marshall.
      Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer, with the Rev. Chuck Kellogg officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Glen Pedersen Post 1. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.       Paul Edward Strautz, the son of Fred and Bertha (Hoar), was born on Aug. 18, 1920, in Onawa, Iowa. He spent his childhood on a farm southeast of Onawa. He attended Onawa Public Schools and graduated in 1938. After graduation, he attended Iowa State College studying engineering and then attended and graduated from the Colorado School of Banking.
      On Sept. 21, 1944, Paul entered into the military serving with the U.S. Navy during World War II. While in the military, he was an aviation electronic technician's mate. He was honorably discharged on Feb. 18, 1946.
      Paul married Dorothy Baustian on March 3, 1943, in Omaha. Following their marriage, they lived in the communities of Seattle, Wash., Sioux City, Storm Lake, Moville, Des Moines, Nevada, Ankeny, Iowa and eventually settling in Spencer. Paul worked for Boeing Aircraft, as an engineer, was a manager for the Farm Service Companies of Iowa and worked for Clay County National Bank retiring in 1986. In his retirement, he worked at Clay County Regional Water.
      He was a proud member of the Spencer and Marshall Rotary Clubs, where he achieved the Paul Harris Fellow Award. He was also a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and the American Legion in Spencer. He enjoyed woodworking and playing golf and was a big Spencer Tiger fan. Paul was very proud of his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Paul had resided at Boulder Estates in Marshall the last four years so he could be closer to his family.
      Left to cherish his memory are his sons, David and his wife, Kathy of St. Charles, Mo., and Steven and his wife, Susan of Marshall, Minn.; six grandchildren, Sarah Baker (Gary), Kortney Miller (Kyle), Jonathan Strautz (Beth), Christopher Strautz (Andrea), Nicholas Strautz and Laura Strautz; six great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
      He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; and one sister, Edna.
      Pallbearers will be Sarah Baker, Kortney Miller, and Jonathan, Christopher, Nicholas and Laura Strautz. Honorary pallbearers will be Stanley Jespersen, Randy Van Dyke, Harry Rasdel and Bob Rose.
      In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Prairie Home Hospice in Marshall, the Spencer School Foundation and the International Rotary Foundation.
