Thomas Zavisza, 76; Of West Suffield
Thomas Zavisza of West Suffield died Tuesday. He was 76.
Born in Suffield, he was a lifelong resident of the town.
He was employed for 21 years by the Pratt & Whitney Division of the United Technologies Corp. before retiring. He had previously worked for the Granby Cabinet Co. and Kaman Corp.
Mr. Zavisza was a former Suffield police officer, a member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Suffield and a past master of the West Suffield Grange.
He leaves his wife, Eleanor Hansen Zavisza; two sons, Thomas and his wife, Laureen Zavisza of Suffield and Stephen J. Zavisza of Easthampton, Mass.; two daughters, Diane R. Mosher of Springfield and Patricia and her husband, John Horr of Granby; a sister, Rose Kozlowski of Enfield; and two grandchildren. Three brothers, Maximillian, Stanley and J. Henry Zavisza and a sister, Sophie Smeigel, died previously.
The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Calvary Episcopal Church Chapel. Burial will be in Silver Street Cemetery, Granville, Mass. Calling hours are Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St., Suffield.

Eleanor Zavisza 1928-2010 WEST SUFFIELD - Eleanor (Hansen) Zavisza, 81, of West Suffield, wife of the late Thomas Zavisza, died peacefully on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, MA. She was born on July 8, 1928 in Springfield, MA, daughter of the late G. Milton and Ruth (Holcomb) Hansen. Eleanor grew up in Granville, MA on the family farm, Sunnyside Orchards. She was a graduate of Westfield High School with the Class of 1946 and went on to attend hairdressing school. Eleanor married Thomas Zavisza on July 2, 1950 and together they settled in West Suffield, where they raised their family and lived for close to 50 years. Eleanor was a sports fanatic and enjoyed following the Boston Red Sox and Celtics, New York Giants and the UCONN Huskies. She loved gardening, reading, cooking and canning vegetables. She also raised African Violets and was a member of the Powder Mill Violet Society. Eleanor was a member of the West Suffield Grange, Calvary Episcopal Church. A kind, caring, loving mother, sister, grandmother and friend she will be greatly missed. She leaves two sons, Thomas G. and his wife Laureen Zavisza of Suffield and Stephen J. Zavisza of Easthampton, MA, two daughters, Diane R. Mosher and her fiance Kevin Forgue of Feeding Hills and Patricia L. and her husband John E. Horr Jr. of North Granby, CT, a sister Norma and her husband Ronald Nobbs of Wilbraham, MA, brother Milton Hansen and his wife June of Ft. Myers, FL Two grandchildren, Justin and Rachel Horr and a step-grandson Jake Fedo and his wife Cheri and their daughter Gianna of Seal Beach, CA. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. (Rt. 159) Suffield. Burial will be in Silver Street Cemetery, Granville, MA. Her family will receive friends on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Suffield Ambulance Association P.O. Box 642 Suffield, CT 06078.
