Obituary:
Lewis R. "Dip" Hoar, age 82, of Columbus Road, Mount Vernon, passed away on Wednesday May 31, 2006 at his home. He was born on August 26, 1923 in Mount Vernon, Ohio to the late Samuel and Mary Elizabeth (Corwin) Hoar. Lewis retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass. He had served as past president of the Glass Works Local #20 and past president of the Knox County Labor Council. Lewis served in the United States Army during World War II where he earned two Bronze Stars. He was a member of the South Vernon United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his loving family, two sons, Lewis (Deb) Hoar of Mount Vernon, Kenneth (Cheryl) Hoar of Tappahannock, Virginia, two daughters, Roxanna Cline of Mount Vernon and Sharon Gault of Mount Vernon, twelve grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Nova Hoar.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife Harriet Hoar, a son, James K. Hoar, a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Hoar, three brothers, James Hoar, John Hoar and Carl Hoar and two sisters, Francis Conrad and Louise Beckholt.
Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2 PM. Burial with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery.
