Obituary:
Aleta Isobell Horr was born on November 13, 1916 in Haines, Oregon the daughter of Floyd L. and Myrtle O. Ellwanger Hoag. She attended Franklin High School in Seattle, Washington where she was both a waitress and worked for Boeing. Aleta moved to Arkansas City in 1999 to be closer to family.
Surviving to honor her memory are her son Lee Goodwin and wife Frances of Vancouver, WA, sister, Vera Houx of Mesa, AZ, grandchildren; Matthew Goodwin of Portland, OR, Julie Crary of Willowspring, N.C., Mervin Bruce of Arkansas City, KS, Rocky Bruce of Springer, OK, Carl Swan of Eugene, OR and Angelia Smallwood of San Marco, California, numerous great grandchildren and numerous brother and sisters-in-law.
Preceding her in death are her parents, husband Richard Horr, daughters; Sharon Swan and Verna Bruce.

Jody Bruce (Verna Bruce)
Jody Bruce, 67, Arkansas City, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center. Graveside services and interment will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2005, in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery near Arkansas City. Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Born April 23, 1937, in Seattle, Wash., she was the daughter of Vernon B. and Aleta Hoag Wolfe. She was raised in Jordan Valley, Ore., and later moved to Colorado Springs, Colo. On July 15, 1958, she married Mervin Dean Bruce Sr., in Long Beach, Calif. They moved to Arkansas City in 1961. For many years, Jody and Mervin have been active in the Maverick's Saddle Club in Arkansas City. Survivors include her husband, Mervin Sr., of the home in Arkansas City; two sons, Mervin Bruce Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, Arkansas City, Rocky Bruce and his wife, Becky, Springer, Okla.; two daughters, Angela Smallwood of San Diego, Calif., and Kathy Bruce of Arkansas City; her mother, Aleta Horr of Arkansas City; one brother, Lee Goodwin of Vancouver, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and one sister, Sharon Swan.
A memorial has been established with the Kidney Foundation. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hawks Funeral Home, Arkansas City.
