      Calvin G. Foster

      EAST GREENBUSH ? Calvin G. Foster of East Greenbush, NY and Naples, FL. died peacefully on Sept. 6, 2009. The son of the late Arthur J. and Frances G. Foster, Calvin was born on November 12, 1924 in Watertown, NY. He graduated from Watertown High School shortly before joining the U.S. Navy on March 3, 1943. After three years, and all theaters of World War II aboard the destroyer escort USS Thornhill, Calvin was honorably discharged. He continued his education at Michigan State University, and married Mary (Polly) E. Horr on June 30, 1949, prior to his graduation in 1950. Polly and Cal celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 30, 2009 with a family trip to Mackinac Island and Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
      Calvin was Vice President of J. Edward Poole and Company Insurance Agency. He was also former president of the CPCU Society of Northeastern New York and the past president of the East Greenbush-Nassau Kiwanis Club. He served on the East Greenbush Planning Board for 16 years and was a commissioner of the Edward W. Bates Building.
      He was a long-time member of the Greenbush Reformed Church, serving as a deacon there. He and Polly spent 20 winters in Naples, FL enjoying the golf and warm weather. While wintering in Florida, he attended and enjoyed being a member of Mayflower Congregational Church.
      In additional to his wife, Polly, Calvin is survived by his three children, John G. Foster (Nancy), Thomas Foster (Amy), and Ann L. Zownir, and six grandchildren, Anne and Laura Foster, Matthew and Adam Sollien, and Peter and Alex Zownir. He is also survived by two sisters, Ethel O'Connor and Muriel Kellar (Robert). He was predeceased by his sister Ruth Doyle and brothers Stuart and Gerald Foster.
      Calling hours will be held at Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home, 165 Columbia Turnpike, Rensselaer on Thursday, September 10 from 4-7 p.m. Services and internment will be held at Greenbush Reformed Church on Friday, September 11 at 10 a.m.
      The family wishes to express special thanks to Hospice of Rensselaer County for their care and support.
