Fairfax -- Arthur F. Horr passed away April 17, 2002, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington from complications during heart surgery. He was born in Woodhaven, N.Y. on Nov. 9, 1916, the son of William and Adeline Horr.
He graduated from Chester, N.Y. High School with honors at the age of 15 and went on to study electrical engineering at New York University, graduating in 1936 with a B. S. in Electrical Engineering. He was noted at NYU for holding offices in numerous honorary societies, councils and committees including election to Tau Beta Pi his junior year and serving as President his senior year.
Throughout his professional career Arthur worked as an electromechanical engineer retiring in Jan. 1978, from Picatinny Arsenal, Dover, N.J. where he was Chief of Utilities. While in N.J. he served on the Vestry of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, as President of the local school board and Kiwanis Club and as Chairman of the Planning Board. After moving to Vermont, he was a lister in Fairfax and served on the Vestry for St. Luke's Episcopal Church in St. Albans. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed nature and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn M. Horr; four children, Robert A. Horr and his wife Sharon of Fairfax, William A. Horr and his wife Mary of Tulsa, Ok., Adele E. Hayes and her husband James of Warnerville, N.Y. and Andrew F. Horr of Fairfax; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Downing of Braedenton, Fla.
A memorial service will be celebrated April 27, 2002, at 2 p.m. in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Fairfield St., St. Albans, with a private family gathering after the service. There will be no viewing or visiting hours. His ashes will be cared for by the family.
Contributions may be made in his memory to St. Luke's in St. Albans or to Bellows Free Academy, Fairfax for a memorial scholarship in his name. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and especially his family.
