HOBE SOUND, Fla. -- Thomas E. Hoar Sr., 78, of Hobe Sound, formerly of Springfield, Mass., a business owner, died Sunday, July 16, in Martin Memorial Medical Center, Stuart.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Mary M. Hoar; two sons; a daughter; two sisters; two grandchildren. He graduated from Lawrence Academy in Groton, Mass., and the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
Mr. Hoar owned and was president of Thomas E. Hoar Inc. in Port Washington, N.Y., and Holbrook, N.Y., for 42 years.
He was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church and Lost Lake Country Club.
The memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 20, in St. Christopher Catholic Church. Donations may be made to American Heart Association, 1111 South Federal Highway, Suite 110, Stuart, FL 34994. Young & Prill Funeral Home, Stuart, is directing arrangements

HOAR_Thomas E., Sr. of Hobe Sound, FL died Sunday, July 16, 2000. He was 78. Born in Springfield, MA, he had been a resident of Hobe Sound for two years after coming here from Jupiter, FL. Prior to retirement, he was Owner and President of Thomas E. Hoar, Inc. for 42 years, in Port Washington and Holbrook, NY. Thomas was a graduate of The Lawrence Academy in Groton, MA and of The College of The Holy Cross in Worcester, MA and of The Tuck School of Finance, Dartmouth College, Dartmouth, NH. During World War II he served in the United States Marines as a Lieutenant. He was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church, Hobe Sound, and Lost Lake Country Club, Hobe Sound. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary M. Hoar of Hobe Sound; two sons, Thomas E. Hoar, Jr. of E. Setauket, NY, Bruce E. Hoar of Stony Brook, NY; his daughter, Andrea L. Lamb of San Diego, CA; two sisters Lillian Shea of San Francisco, CA, Rita McCleery of St.Louis , MO and Naples, FL and two grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 20, 2000, 10 AM at St. Christopher Catholic Church, Hobe Sound. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider The American Heart Association, 1111 S. Federal Highway, Suite 110, Stuart, FL 34994.
